What do I need to do to get this thing up to OCing standards?

Howdy-

Been lurking for a couple of months and I finally feel like I am getting the whole OC thing. Maybe. Not really. Built my machine (listed below of course) in late November. Orginal build had a 3500+ Ven instead of the 3700+ SD that is shown now and a 6800GT instead of the 7800GT that is in the box now. Just upgraded those 2 parts this week. When I was building this computer it was to get better preformance when playing games like BF2 and CoD2. I was using an Intel 2.8 machine and was not happy with the gaming preformance but that is not the point of this post. The 3500 did the job but I wanted to start on a trip down OC lane and started to read about all the great numbers everyone was getting out of the 3700 SD so I got one. I know I got a KAB? but do not remember what the last 2 letters are but CPU-z shows the revsion as SH-E4 so it matches with those who have KAB2E. I have not seen a CPU-z of the KAB7E to know what the rev numbers there are so I will assume it is KAB2E. Thanks for sticking with me on my rant thus far and now for the question. What else do I need to upgrade to get up to OC standards (if there is such a thing) so I can begin my adventure or is the current setup ready to be pushed?

I have OCed the GPU to 470/1.1. The max I got on it was 505/1.2 but that seemed a bit much for the stock cooling on the card so I backed off to the highest factory OC I found listed on a retail card (eVGA I think) with the same reference cooler as mine.

Thanks for reading the rant and with the help of all you OC gurus I should start having some OC fun real soon. Let the OCing commence!

Overclocking has no standards. Just begin with your setup now. The whole point of overclocking was to get midrange parts to perform like highend parts. But at this point people use it to get any performace gain possible. Also what were your GPU temps?

GPU temps today are 42c idle (cold weather here in S. Texas 42F) and after 10 minutes of ATItool artifact scan torture the max temp was high at 62c. I have not tweaked the fan with RivaTuner yet although I do not think that will help much but you never know. I can not imagine how high it would have been at 505 core. Got to get a new cooler for it. Does anyone know if Artic Cooling has fixed the NV6 to work with the 7800 correctly? I kow it has a power plug problem or at least that is what I read somewhere but I have not investigated further.
