That board's too old for an upgrade. I'd reccomend getting a new board and CPU. You could give AMD a try, as an Athlon 64 or Sempron will blow your P4 out of the water.

Here is a CPU compatability list for your motherboard! Your new CPU won't be able to go over 400Mhz FSB, make sure to consider that!

Then there's two things you can do:

1. Get a new chip off of eBay
2. Try to get 75 REP as fast as possible so you can post a wanted thread in the for sale/wanted section.

Note to the mods: If I shouldn't mention the REP, please PM me and it won't happen again.

Your system should be able to upgrade maximally to a 2.8GHz Northwood A as the Northwood A versions have the same 400 FSB that your current processor, and there isn't support for the faster 533 FSB. That's too bad but on the plus side you do have an upgrade path so rejoice! If that had been a Socket 423 P4, your max upgrade would have been a Willamette 2.0 so yeah, it could have been a lot worse!
In terms of overall performance increases, the P4A 2.8 would be the best choice. That would give you roughly 45 - 60% more CPU power!

The only CPUs for sale on newegg that would work with your motherboard are the mobile Dothan CPUs (For laptops)! I would SERIOUSLY recommend getting a new motherboard, as both your socket and FSB speed were discontinued last year! A processor upgrade would just be a waste of money, because it's already outdated...You're in a tricky spot for upgrading here, in order to upgrade your CPU, you'll need a new motherboard, likely a Socket 775 one. Then if you go with Socket 775 you'll have to upgrade to DDR2 RAM, a new 24 pin PSU, and most likely a PCI-E slot (New video card too!) Get a new computer!

EDIT: Nevermind....forgot about ebay.....
