SATA III WD black vs SATA II WD black

Thread Starter
So I have 2 off the sata 2 640gbs. Im selling my gaming rig, and I was thinking about either getting one of the new sata III's. I think I got 130mbs read with the sata 2's.

So how do they compare, are the new ones a lot faster or just a little?

Or should I just get a SSD...

Dont waste your money on the SATA III blacks. Modern drives still don't use the full bandwidth of SATA III, let alone SATA III. Save your money for a couple of SSD drives in raid 0.

Ill agree on skipping the sata 3 drives for now. even a sata 3 SSD only just uses enough bandwidth.

Would much rather look at the new Sandforce controlled SSD's

SATA3 for a regular hard drive? No way.

As others have stated, only the latest and most expensive SSDs will use the full bandwidth of SATA2 and only a handful can use SATA3 effectively. Read/Write Speeds on normal drives are really nothing great...at all.

Stick with SATA2. It'll be cheaper and there is a lot more selection.

Quite Frankly, I am not even sure if the WD Black SATA3 drives are actually SATA3 drives. It's quite possible they are just rebranded SATA2 drives. They are all compatible with each other anyway.
