RAM Troubles

Thread Starter
I just bought a dual channel kit of OCZ Premier series 2x512mb. I installed it and took out my old pc2700 ram to replace it with this pc3200. I booted into windows but it still recognizes the ram as pc2700 so it runs at 166mhz. I can go into the bios and set it to 200 instead of auto and it still works fine but should it not detect that it is pc3200 on auto? Also on my other set of ram which was just samsung value ram or something I could overclock to 2.5 stable but with this I can only get to 2.42 and it reboots. Any help is appreciated...thanks

If you reset your Bios to default settings or Flash your CMOS it should recognize it as 3200.

k thanks, will try that

I tried setting defaults but didn't change anything..

I got my cpu to 2.42ghz (220*11) which puts the ram at 220 since its on a 1:1 divider. My old value ram was stable at this but with my new ocz stuff it randomly reboots?? Any suggestions....I've tried changing it to 2T and I have the HTT Multi at x4.

You should do the RAM settiing manually anyhow to get optimal timing, so it doesn't realy matter as long as it boots. The timing at Auto if often very slack to make it work on most mobo's.

Well I dont think my timings are too bad: 2.5-3-3-7 on auto, thats not bad is it? I dont know much about ram timings..

I can't seem to get the ram over about 210mhz though...I thought I would be able to get at least more than 210..it isn't super overclocking ram but it just seems to randomly reboot anything over this. Its fine when its running a divider of 166mhz instead of 200 (1:1) so maybe it just wont do over 210?

Try 3-4-4-8 and see if you can go any higher. Also try to increase the RAM voltage if possible. Download memtest86 iso and make a boot CD to test only the RAM before starting windows. You should have several passes. Try with a low multiplier to make sure it's not the core causing truble. Make sure to reduce the HTT mult to 3.

I tried setting the timings to 3-4-4-8 but that didn't seem to help, it rebooted shortly after getting into windows at 210. I haven't run memtest yet but I will do that tonight..

I dont think its the CPU because I can run it at 2.7ghz perfectly stable with the memory on a 166 divider.

BTW Thanks for all of your help Bimmer...really appreciate it..reps+

Quess it's just crappy RAM. I also had some cheep value RAM that barely was stable at 200MHz and nothing above.
