help with temps!

Ive seen quite a few posts about this but yet I had to try for mylsef as I am still pullin my hair out. I have a penitum D 820 2.8GHz non overclocked PC with a big typhoon cooling system and artic silver 5 thermal paste. I reseated my processor and yet my idle temp is still in mid 50s C..From what ive been reading this should be not be this hot. Ive gone to as5 websites and applied just as directed twice, always cleaned and reapplied. I have a 120mm fan on front, 120 on back, 80 on side, and this huge thing on the processor yet im still pushing in upwards of 63 when under load. I was hoping to overlock this thing but with the temp read outs I am certainly not going to until this is under control. Any other suggestions guys. I have been using a really thin layer of as5 and i used a level on top of the typhoon to make sure all corners were pushed down the right amount. Should i tighten down more? The screws are about 35% down from original but i dont want to pressure the board and crack it...im so frustrated. I hope this is enough info to get some feedback on. thanks

First off what is your room temp?? I mean because if your idleing at 50 and loading at 63, it does sound like your typhoon is doing its job buy keeping the load temps from jumping realy high, example(40idle and 60+load= something is loose or not set right) Im just gonna guess that your room temps are pretty high, and if this is correct then your CPU will run warm reguardless of what you do unless you pull some cool air into the PC. When my room is 70.F+ my CPU idles at 40c-46c+ and loads around 50-55c. If my room is around 65.F temps run alot cooler.

Oh and at the moment its 72.F in my house, but its 12 bellow outside, and Ive got 4 inch dryer ducting attatched to my typhoon fan and strung out between my storm windows. and Im runnign a temp of 26c OCed to 3.65ghz

Are these safe temps to begin to overlock though? Or should i try and get my room cooler and better ventilation to it? Obviously the heat will be more if i OC it, just making sure im not doing any damage here

No for the sake of your system lower the temps before you overclock, also to lower your temps a little more Lap the typhoons copper base, that will drop a few numbers if its done right. http://www.overclock.net/faqs/15897-...hlight=lapping
