Im running an underpowered PSU, what problems will this cause

Hi All,

I had a 525watt PSU which blew before i got a chance to use it so i had to stick my spare 350watt one in my new rig, will this cause major problems with speed, game performance etc? It's reset itself once so i know it's close to being too underpowered, would this bottleneck the rest of my system?

Thanks.

It won't really effect the performance of your system, but It may cause instability,(e.g. BSOG, Random Reboots, that sort of thing.) or just stop working altogether.

It really depends on the PSU.

Make sure you get a new PSU before you do anything to that system. Generally it's not good to run old units on a new system unless it requires the same power supply spec. I'd look at the 450W Fortron Source (FSP Group) SAGA series unit. The SAGA units are quiet, they have good amps, and their voltages are rock solid. I use a 400W version, but your system probably draws more wattage than mine. If you have around $90, consider the Sunbeam NUUO. They are supposed to be very good, and they support SLI.
