Water Temperature to CPU Temperature

Thread Starter
Right now im finishing up a watercooling mod, and I was wondering how far off will my cpu temp be from my water temp?

I am measuring the temp of my water in my res right now to be 6.1C

What can I expect for my cpu?

as a rule of thumb the cpu temperature with a common wc setup will be about 10°C above the ambient temperature. but with a good wc you can expect within 5°C. the minimum temperature difference you can expect is about 3°C above ambient temperature. based on your res temperature i would say u can expect ur cpu temperature to be about 10-12°C.

cool, cool,

I have my gpu right after my cpu in my loop, what can I expect for the gpu temp? 10C above CPU?

if you are running the water from the pump into the radiator and then to the cpu block and finally into the reservoir, then you can expect ur gpu temp in that range. but if your gpu is overclocked then the temps would be higher. also the thumb rule of 10°C above ambient for cpu doesnt apply for cpu-gpu block. it would be higher in this case. i think you would need to change your system flow because it seems to me that you are running from radiator to reservoir and then to pump and from there to the block. i would say that this is not so right since the temp of water arriving to the block in this mode would be higher. am i assuming it right? i am making this guess because your reservoir temp is really low and anything below that water would start to freeze so it seems to me u r running the above config that i mentioned. can u confirm?

I may have read this wrong, but how are you getting 6C water temperature? ambient temperatures are usually around 20C ~ 70F... I have watercooling, and my CPU/GPU run at around 30C, give or take a couple degrees. 0C is freezing, so 6C isnt much warmer. Clarify maybe?

Are you chilling that water? 6.1c is pretty cold, Anyway right now mine is:

room= 20c
water in reservoir= 24c

Right now my loop is Radiator, to res, to pump to cpu, to gpu and back to radiator.

Its not a regular watercooling setup, yes, I said six degree's C. Ill post pics when the setup is complete.

i would suggest u reroute the flow from reservoir to pump to radiator to cpu block to gpu block and finally to reservoir again. that way you should get better temps for ur cpu and gpu block. thermodynamics say so. read the following for further explanation.

http://www.overclock.net/faqs/70838-...how-can-i.html

and at that temps i think u need to add some anti freeze. i am assuming ur ambient temps is a bit low. correct?

Well my idea was, the res is kept in a container that is sub ambient. The purpose of the radiator, is to get the water as close to ambient as possible to ease the strain on the container trying to get it sub ambient.

If I were to put the radiator after the res, it would seem that there would be lots of strain on the container.

i get your idea and its a good one too. how you keeping the container under sub ambient temps? cooling it down? mind sharing the secret? in any case best u add some anti freeze.
