Samsung SyncMaster 204B

Thread Starter
Hi!

Since 2 month I try to find a review for this monitor Samsung SyncMaster 204B. I dont know if you know the specs of this LCD but it seems to me that it is a really good monitor. here the link to the Samsung site :
http://www.samsung.com/Products/Moni...0BRDBSQXAA.asp

Now I decided last week to take a guest and buy it anyway... So far so good but if you are in the same situation as me and don't know if that LCD worth is price here is my ''own'' reviews of the Samsung 204B.

Gaming:

I was looking for a good and big gaming monitor, actualy it was the most important thing. With is 5ms of respond time the 204B is more than adequate for that... with a week of intense gaming (fear,quake4,Nfs Most Wanted.COD2) I never saw blurriness, visual slowdowns, ghosting. I didn't try a real time strategy yet ( waiting for SW:Empire at war) but I THINK that if the screen is able to push a Great shooter like Quake4 or Fear with no problem RTS will be fine to. There is one thing that you must consider before buying this screen though, the native resolution is 1600x1200. So if you plan to play heavy 3D games plan to get a heavy duty Video card. (my 7800GT is not able to push the max AA and AF from the lastest games at 1600x1200) Of course you can lower the resolution and I was impress to see how the screen still looking good even at 1024x768... but 1600x1200 is the hot spot for that LCD.

Movies and pictures:

Some people told me that because of the contrast ratio and the brightness the movies and picture playback won't be as good as an other LCD monitor. So like I already said Gaming was the ultimate pupose of that screen so I doesn't really care about that. But anyway those people were WRONG... Maybe not wrong because I haven't put my LCD next to another one but MEN... It looks really good. The picture are sharp and bright and the movies are as good as on my HDTV. And with couple of display preset(movie, game, web browsing etc...) you can adjust your image quality in one push of a buton.

text and web browsing:

Again the Samsung 204B have great results when looking at the text and web. The text is Crisp and sharp but you'll need good eyes to read small text at 1600x1200. Like a bunch of monitor now, the 204B can also be seen as portrait or landscape wich could be very usefull if you have to read long text file.

So thats about it... I'm really satisfied with the Samsung 204B absolutely no complain about it. Hope this could help some of you to choose your LCD monitor. Post your comments and question but don't forget that this reviews is based on MY impression.
