Any good non-data plan phones (ATT)?

Thread Starter
So AT&T is now forcing data plans of $30 a month for smartphones now... Totally ruins everything.

There's only a selection of 5 phones that does not require a data plan. Which all my friends have. Sad seeing everyone with the same phone now.

Can I still buy an unlocked phone and use it with my currently cheapest plan? I figure it's cheaper than paying $30 a month for 2 years and the phone itself with the contract..

Or does anyone have phone suggestions?

Wait for the new iPhone to come out, buy it, sell it on Craigslist for $900, buy any phone of your choice. The data plan only has to stay on your account for as long as you use the phone (on your account)

Yes, you can use an unlocked phone without a data plan or lower cost data plan.
What some have done is add the 10$ data plan, and then get a smartphone and only pay 10$ vs 30$+

This will only work if you add a non-AT&T branded smartphone :\\ The second you add one of their smartphones, they will switch you to the $30 plan without asking you. But, if you manage to get any non-AT&T smartphone, you'll only have to pay $10 for all you can eat data
