If its an older house, i would just get a dehumidifier and an air-filter down there and you should be set.

Awesome setup, my man cave has been it the attic and the ac bills were through the roof to keep the place cool enough. You may want to get a dehumidifier if it's damp down there.

Basements are awesome, if you are in a dry climate (like here) you do not need to worry about moisture.

Boy am I glad my basement was not finished until last year. I also would have went the projector route but have you watched a quality blu-ray on an expensive projector compared to a mediocre 55+" led lcd hdtv like Vizio? I find it impressive that I can picks single strands of grass out on a led lcd hd set but cannot on a projector in the same movie and they are both supposedly 1080p?

No comparison! My good friend has a dedicated home theater in his basement
and runs a fairly expensive Optoma (I actually built the htpc for him) unit that was around 3g new. I am not enamored with it at around 100 inches and even @ 60 inches or whatever it's lower screen size setting was I feel the led lcd hdtv's look richer.

I am sure there are far better yet expensive arguments for both sides.

Are you purchasing the home or renting?

If purchasing frame a wall separating the "utility room" from your cave and consider using the staggered stud approach along with some good old fashioned db-block sheeting!

Problem solved! Next?
