NF4 Ultra-D: Memory Selection (Corsair 3200C2)

Thread Starter
I have decided to go DFI, but there's only one problem... Memory

As you can see in my signature I have corsair memory, XMS 3200C2, I have read around the forums alittle bit tonight and I noticed that some got decent overclocks (billy), but his english wasn't too good so I didn't quite fully understand what he was saying and its wayy to late in the night for me to comprehend any of that.

I wanted to get the Ultra-D with a eVGA 6800GS CO SE, but if my memory isn't compatable it will put me in a huge dilemma, and ultimatley, one sad little man.

So basically I need:
  • A sum up for the Corsair XMS CMX 3200C2 Memory
  • What timings it can run overclocked
  • How far it can overclock (FSB)
  • At what timings ^^^^
  • Will it be able to run two revisions ok (v1.1, v1.2)
What do you guys personally think. Should I take the chance and order the board? Or should I just stick on the safe side and get some new memory.

If I do get new memory, please do suggest some memory under $150, I was thinking some of this G.SKILL:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...N82E16820231013

I can't find the Extreme Series they had that was advertised at 2-2-2-5 w/ silver heatspreaders & TCCD. And as about $156.

Thanks for all your help in advance.

Your corsair memory should work with no problems on the DFI board.

Well I've been reading up on DFI Street, and the memory WORKS, but they get these crappy overclocks, not to mention that I have two revisions of the memory (v1.1, v1.2).

Well, what your should do is wait for your board to get there and try to oc with that ram and see what happens. Then, if your not satisfied, you can order some tccd.

The reviews look a little too promising. I doubt they can get up to 270mhz at those timings.

Pros: Here are some examples of what some people have been able to do with this RAM:

- 270x11=2970MHz DDR540 @ 2-2-2-5-1T - A64 San Diego - Gskill PC3200GH
- 270x14=3782MHz DDR540 @ 2-2-2-5-1T - A64 F...
X San Diego - Gskill PC3200GH
300x9=2700MHz DDR540 @ 2-2-2-5-1T w/ 10/9 divider - A64 Venice - Gskill PC3200GH268x14=3753MHz DDR538 @ 2-2-25-1T - A64 FX San Diego - Gskill PC3200GH
- 265x9=2385MHz DDR530 @ 2-2-2-3-1T - A64 Venice - Gskill PC3200GH
- 262x9=2358MHz DDR524 @ 2-2-2-5-1T - A64 Venice - Gskill PC3200GH
- 260x10=2600MHz DDR520 @ 2-2-2-5-1T - A64 Winchester - Gskill PC3200GH

Definitely some good stuff with some great Winbond BH-5 chips.

Cons: Needs lots of volts. Like around 3.3v AT LEAST.... More »

Other Thoughts: Currently in the process of breaking these sticks in. When I'm done, I'll no doubt be able to achieve results similar to those listed above.

Most of the reviews say the ram requires 3.3 volts to OC. Fortunatly, your new DFI board will be able to do that.

This ram a little more expensive but is TCCD.

I don't like corsair, never liked corsair. over priced crap.

Hey, I have some some Corsair 3200C2PT RAM which is the same stuff... just has the platinum heatsink.

I've had a few sets as the first pair wouldn't run 1T no matter what I did, then the 2nd pair died after less than 24 hours and the 3rd pair have been kinda finicky... so I'm not sure about them.

but anywho, I found that the modules will give a modest oc and can be expected to get to about DDR500 running timings of 3-3-3-8, 2T and about 2.85v You may be able to get them to do 2.5-3-3-8 or so, but trying to push them too far will make them stop working for days at a time in my experience. I tested them on an Asus A8N-SLI deluxe board, and I currently have a pair running on that board, but they aren't OC'd at the moment so they're running DDR400 @ 2-3-3-6 1T 2.75v
