Not Impressed with NV Silencer

Thread Starter
Ok so I put my NV Silencer on today and I'm not impressed with it what-so-ever. My eVGA Copper Cooler keeps it at the same temp if not cooler than the NV5. Right now the Idle temp is 48*C and before I put it on the idle temp was 45*C. I know everything is in place correctly and the old paste was taken off. I know my ambient temp might be a little high and if does fluctuate quite often but I was hopeing for more than a +3*C difference. I'm going to take my CPU and place it out from under my desk and see if that helps but who knows.

Also, do these things have to be broken in for a little bit or what, I wouldnt think so

If you have a CO version of the 7800GT, stick with it, I'm considering getting some AS5 and putting my old cooler back on it and might have a NV Silencer for Sale

The idle temps will stay around the same, but the big difference is in the load temp. Compare your load temps and you will get good results.

I totally agree. Under load is when you should see the most difference. The extra heat will be exhausted through the back instead of staying inside of the case.

My Blazer is as fast as my BMW M3 when they're both parked. Should I take my M3 back?

No You should give it to me

The point is very valid.
On a side note. Watercooling is sometimes a few degreez higher than aircooling at idle. Should you stick with air cooling to get the better idle temps?

No need to be a smart ass, but if it's a better cooler than Idle temps should conceivably be a little lower, and under load it's only 5*C cooler

Calm down, I was only kidding with you. My point was that idle temps mean nothing. Before you give up on that cooler, try reseating it once. Those are very good coolers.

Hmm, pandapimp also was very dissapointed with his NV Silencer 5R3, what gives? You NV boys just don't know how to mount heatsinks LOL (jk) but my AC silencer hacked 15c idle and 32c full load off of my stock x800xl cooler! (and added 11MHz to my max OC)
