Sata + Ide Hdd ?

Objective:
I have just finish assembling my new rig but I can't get the SATA hdd to work. I was able to install win xp on the IDE hdd without any problems. My plan is to set the SATA as the primary for better performance in gaming, dvd decoding, programs and such and use the IDE mainly for storage like mp3s. I can't wait to play Battlefield 2!

The problem:
I plugged up both of the SATA plugs. Set the IDE as Primary Master and set my NEC dvd drive as Secondary Master. I enabled the raid for the SATA in the bios. The raid bios says press F4 (Ctrl S) then F10 but nothing happens when I press it. I can't get to the raid bios unless I set the IDE as a raid through bios but then the SATA doesn't show up, only the IDE. Any idea as to why? or how I can solve this problem?

SPEC:
Maxtor DiamonMax 300GB SATA150, Seagate 160GB IDE ATA-100 2MB 5400 RPM, Danger Den Elite Watercooling kit, Chieftec Dragon Server case, Asus A8N SLi Deluxe mobo, AMD64 3200+ Socket 939 Venice, XFX 6600GT 128MB PCI-E, OCZ 2048MB PC3200, CoolMax SLi Ready 600W PS, NEC DVD-+ DL Drive.

During the initial OS load leave the PATA drive powered down and disconnected. The OS will by default try to install on it.

Then check your BIOS to enable the SATA controller and/or make the drive visible to the BIOS.

Im not sure what you mean. Disconnect the SATA and install the OS on the IDE then afterwards go back to the BIOS to enable the SATA drive?

translation: to install the OS on the SATA array you must first disconnect and/or power down your IDE drive--the OS already installed on the IDE drive and/or the OS install.exe on the CD will attempt to mount the OS on the IDE drive--if it (the IDE drive) is not there then you should be able to mount it (the OS) on the RAID array--provided that you have already enabled this (Array) in BIOS and in the RAID Controller BIOS.

Ok, I tried it but still the same problem. I just notice that in bios the SATA was not detected. What could be the problem? I plugged up the two wires, one from the PS and one from the motherboard.

Start over and one by one set each device and its needed bios, jumper, drivers, controllers, and (PLUG N PLAy bios setting my need to be diabled) until the drives are set to there respective profiles? I have rarely had a PC with multiple drive types go seemlessly the first time unless it was a new build? I have a SATA/SCSI/IDES/Floppy 3.5 that I'm fix'n to go to it myself. Have fun and take notes
