Conroe aims to trump Athlon's processing performance - Page 3

It's not a fair comparison for AM2 as the processor architecture is still the K8 and the Conroe is an entirely new architecture.

Now if the Conroe can only keep up with or minimally bypass a K7 (The K8 is a major revision of the K7 architecture and not a completely new build) architecture that was originally released on August of 1999 then they are still behind (imo) and I wonder what the New AMD processor (when released) will be like.

Just so you guys know, the Windsor and Orleans AMD socket AM2 CPUs are only revisions (revision F to be exact) of the current AMD Athlon 64s and A64 X2s so don't expect anything spectacularly faster than current Athlons from AMD at skt AM2's launch, however Im sure their next generation CPU (65nm probably) will be even faster than Conroe but Im an Intel faithful through and through

You sound like a desperate AMD fan trying to cope with the fact that Intel is going to be on top... for once

Really now... How good were those K7 processors back in 1999 when they first came out? The Conroe will evolve to be a better processor, just look at the P4 going from 1.8Ghz to 3.8... The first release isn't the best one they are going to have!

LOL

I have two computers and my wife has one. I built all three. My sig is my gaming computer. My multi-media computer is the same as my wife's.

A P4 630 3.0 @ 4.02GHz.

Intel could well be on top. That being said, it was unfair to compare a cpu form factor to an entirely new chip architecture. It takes no fanboy to realize this.

It is unfair to compare any CPU to the P4 archi ... A child could have done a better job designing the architecture IMO.

Well thats why i am waiting till benchmarks come out with the Conroe chips then i will base my decision off that....but i will most likely be purchasing a Conroe E6700 maybe even EE....

And you call me a fan? P4 still functions in a superior way to some multi-media translations than AMD. One can not make a global statement such as yours that glibly as it comes out false.

For example. You say it is unfair to compare any CPU to the P4.

How about the 8086? 80286, 80386, 8486. How about K5, K6?

Thus your statement (and opinion) is foolish and you could more easily be called a fanboy with that statement than I with mine.

The AM2 initial processors will be 89W and below dual cores, along with i beleive they have a 36W single core. AMD is definately in the game still. And not everything has been said about AM2 as of right now anyways, and again, im sure when benchmarks come out this may just be more hype than performance, alot of things have been way overhyped in the past, and this is also one.. When was the last time computer technology has lived up to the hype?
