link? And no you don't need 2 Vcards--just 1 Vcard that supports dual mons--look on the back of FX 5500 and you should see two outputs--at least mine does. Even older cards may have that capability. My ATI AIW 9600 does, as does my X700pro--you simply plug 2 monitors in and use the provided interface (either windows by right clicking your open desktop and selecting properties, or from the SW with your Vcard (ATI or whatever))to choose which monitor is right/left/ip/down/ set their resolution ands refresh rates, etc.

The benefit is increased desktop real estate--you could have an app open and still have tool bars andmeus open without overlapping your work--or you could have multiple explorer windows open--or you could stretch the display across both screens for wide format work (like in CAD).

Once you have two you won't want to go back to one...slim bezel LCD panels are the best for these arrays.

There are devices that can drive 6 or 8 screens at once--but these are expensive and power consumption is high.

here are a couple examples of what it might look like. one I believe is from a member, the other is from collegehumor. For the one with a LOT of monitors, you would need a pci videocard with 2 outputs for every 2 monitors displayed.

Cause normally your computer is doing the work anyways (read: Background apps), but this way you actually get to see it.

You don't split your computer. Your video card will just process two video signals to be produced on seperate monitors. There is even an FAQ on how to do it.
