Hi guys,

This is my first experiance with overclocking. Currently i'm only able to run my p4 3.4 @3.7 stable. I was hoping to get a little higher then this for stable speeds. If i go up to as much as 3.799 it crashes. I'm just wondering what might be holding me back. I'm thinking it might be the ram but i'm courious what you guys think. My system specs are as follows:

P4 3.4 (socket 478)
ASUS P4P800-E Deluxe MB
2x512 PC3200 Corsiar Value Select http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145026
430w Thermaltake Power Supply

Any help would be great. Thanks.

~Jamie

The chipset on your mobo and mine are different--which might be one area of concern...you might be clocking your RAm out of it's comfort zone as well. In Bios in manual under advanced you should find controls for the RAM speed and timings--select the next slower RAM speed and try again. You could also play with the Vcore and VDIMM voltage--but that is as a last resort after establishing your OC limit.

Selecting a slower RAM speed and maybe even loosening the timings may be the way in which you can push your FSB a little higher.

Are you OCing via software or your BIOS? I have the same RAM, you may have to run a RAM divider to slow the value ram down. Im sure you can get a much better OC though

I would say definately your ram divider. You probably left it at "auto" which is pushing your ram way too far. Set it for a 1:1 didvider(probably 2.0 or 2.0-). and you should see some big increases. Hope it helps.

i'm using the software the came with my ASUS mb.

How do i run a ram divider? I havn't really touched much with the memory. Upped the voltage a few times to see if that made any difference but it didn't. Currently my CPU-Z is saying my fsd : DRam ratio is 1:1. I don't know if that has anything to do with it.

Well thats your entire problem right there....

Forget about software OCing, experiment with your BIOS, read the endless amount of FAQS on this site.

GL =)

EDIT Also try and show us a screenshot of your CPUZ, that would help bunch, do one of the CPU page and the memory tab.

I'll post screenshots soon.. just doing some testing right now.

What should my DRAM Frequency be? Right now i'm at 320, i tried 400 while OC'd but it froze it. Not sure if lower or higher is better here.

Forget Oc'ing with software. You need to OC through bios.

Ok heres a screen shot. I got up to 3.83, i'm not sure how stable it is yet. This is with the dram freq down to 266 as jbrown advised. All these settings were changed in BIOS, i'm no longer using the ASUS software to do it. I still havn't gottin a 1:1 ratio (not quite sure how). If i up the FSB any more even to 227 it crashes under these current settings. Can i get any more out of her somehow?.. maybe if i got to 1:1 ratio as advised about? If so how?

Attachment 20505

Edit: should i be adjusting voltages to the memory or CPU at all?

Edit2: ok this speed isn't stable.. it'll run fine till i put some stress on it. As after the first test in pcMark04 it shuts down
