Try shutting down all non essential apps running in the background to try and clear up as much memory as possible...also..anything that may be using your internet connection such as MSN Messanger..stuff like that

No... Usually it is a problem with the comp, on my crappy machine I lag terrible but on my friends comp at the same time with more ram he runs fine.

You need at least 512mb to play Wow, Bro. Look at "Latest Videos" and stream hardware comparision. Big difference. Sometimes It can be the server. Blizzard has alot of overcrowded servers. They're always making it better.

Seems like no one will be on the WoW UK servers for a while as the world server is down. My server (Aggramar's) fault as we just hit the gong to open the gates lol.

Knight-Captain Gongillian (60 Human Warlock). Damn Horde opened it as well, some of us ran in with PVP on too

As to memory specs you need at least 512MB to run the world without much lag and at least 768MB to survive in a city, I would recommend 1GB for Ironforge however due to the usual massive population in that city.

For excellent terrain distance make sure you have a decent GPU with some good pixel shading power

No you may not have to run on low. Make sure you dont use value ram if possible. Try program called Memtest or Free Ram XP pro. Both should help you maximize Ram efficiancy. Dont run anything in the background, also maybe go START > RUN > msconfig and get rid of uneeded startup actions or go services.msc n get rid of unwanted services. Google Wow tweak guide, for more help. Your comp should handle Wow ok at low to middle settings. But.... Low settings = higher FPS (frames per second)
