7800GTX SLi or WD Raptor - Page 2

With DX10 on the horizon I wouldn't think it would be worth your while having another 7800GTX for a short period before having to update again. So on that basis I would go for the raptor or just save up for something else since you already have a raided system.

I definetly agree.... You could always sell them later too. A hard drive from my experience is hard to sell!

Good luck making your choice!

You already have 2 drives in RAID 0, the Raptor X is fast but I really doubt you'd notice that much of a difference. The second GTX will definitely make a difference, but it's probably overkill at this point.

I would suggest upgrading to 2GB of ram before anything else. All the video card power in the world can't help you without enough ram in some games. In BF2 there is no way to play with all the graphics maxed (at 1600x1200 at least) with only 1GB of ram, it just can't load it fast enough. I have 2 7800GT's and my 1GB is keeping me down. I've heard the same is true in FEAR. Anyway, that's my suggestion.

Definately what bluecow said on the RAM. I'd get 4x512MB of DDR2 RAM at 2-2-2-5 instead of another GTX, you'll actually see your system perform better and see a slight boost in Framerate as well with better RAM

I agree with the RAM upgrade suggestion. Adding a second GTX is a waste of money, unless you plan on running it at very high resolutions by buying a very expensive HUGE monitor. Adding a 3rd HDD won't improve performance unless all other drives are as fast as the Raptor.

i like the ram idea, except whoever said get 4x512 sticks. If you want the best performance, get 2x1Gb sticks, and don't fille up all your dimms. Once you fill them all up you'll have to change your command rate to T2 which will hurt your performance a little. I'd get 2x1Gb and sell your 2 512's. you can get a nice set of 2x1gbs for around 200 now.

niether upgrade is necesary, you should hold on to it and get a new dx10 card or upgrade the whole thing later, you wont notice any difference between the raptor and raid-0. another gtx will really only improve your benchmarks.

hmmmmmmmmm I hate making these choices ......

I don't really need either and I just gave my friend $90 in advance so he could order stuff for his comp and then once he got his parts we traded RAM so now I have the g.skill extreme performance 2x1gb kit ... same exact RAM I had except the 2gb kit. I was playing this stock game thing (vse.marketwatch.com) and I found a stock that was worth less than 1 cent and I bought $25,000 of it in fake money and in like 3 days ist up to around 1.5 cents and i have close to $50,000 and with the $550 I have I could open up an account at scottrade.com and maby double or quadruple my $
