Kingston Hyper X - Page 3

run prime95 to test for stability. run it over night... 12 hours of the torture test and you'll know your system is stable.

I'd say there are pros and cons to each set.

g.skill:
i've seen them OC a bit more
cheaper

OCZ:
platinum colored copper heatsink
still OC
great customer service and you've heard of them.

yeah just google prime95 install it then options, torture test, choose blend and hit ok. then you're good to go. it will heat up your cpu and stress your whole system, cpu and RAM. so if you have a temp monitoring program it might be good to have it keep track of your temps. then just let the program just run all night long. it will tell you if there is an error and it fails. if there aren't any errors it will keep going until you tell it to stop.

I think that I'd personally lean towards the g.skills... use the extra cash to get another fan, some AS5 or even put it towards a better cooler for your gfx card. if you'd really feel more comfortable w/ ocz then get those... cause you can't beat feeling good about a purchase.

well they'll do better than your kingston... not as good as say my TCCD, but then again they cost about half what my RAM did

well I'm not sure what IC's g.skill uses to make the RAM, but if people are reporting that they tend to OC to around DDR500 they can't really be all that bad. Even though g.skill does not list the specific IC they probably do some sort of binning.
the way value RAM's price is kept low is by using non-binned IC's so the companines do not know what they are capable of. While this may not see like a great idea at first, the RAM is tested at the specified speed, just not any further than that. Since less testing is done generally you get the less performing chips... that's why most value RAM will only oc to about 215Mhz.
So that is why I say that even though the RAM does not cost much, g.skill might be doing some sort of binning to get better chips since they have been known to OC more than the typically value RAM.
All you can do is give them a try. if you don't like how they perform sell them on ebay or something like that. I don't know if they'll be great, but I really do think they'll be better than what you currently have.
