Increases the quality of the gfx. Lowers your fps.. but gfx are a bit better depending on how much you have them at.

AA is Anti-Aliasing. Aliasing happens when the textures are filtered and there arent enough pixels to blend together. It looks like things are jagged instead of smooth. Bilinear and Trilinear refers to how many times the textures are filtered. It makes a really big difference to turn it up but will lower your fps. Turning it to trilinear will make the textures look crisp instead of pixelated.

AA is refered as the "jaggies" the higher the AA the smoother diagonal lines since it is very hard to make clear diagonal lines. AA fills those traingualr gaps as best it can to make it look as smooth as possible. You can see with some benchmark pictures how AA can make a difference in pictures but it can also suck up a lot of RAM giving you lower rates and sometimes a huge drop in certain resolutions

Filtering is what the system does to make textures look good. Textures are small. Usually 256x256 or 512x512 pixels. When you think of how large a surface that small texture has to be applied to, it would look really pixelated. So they made a solution: filtering. Filtering basically blends the pixels together so they look smooth. Trilinear does it more than bilinear so it looks better and more crisp.

EDIT: To GatorLCA AA isnt the jaggies, aliasing is. AA corrects it.

I've always wondered about antistropic fitering. I think his trilinier and bilinier fit into that category. What does that do?

Antistropic I think has something do with bluring things that are way off in the distance to make it look more real (fading into the distance).
