How exactly is it either of those? The chinese iPed ripoff has more features... albeit it is slower, it has USB, MircoSD, and other things that iCrap products have not had without jailbreaking.
I don't think that MicroSD and USB make or break a product.

Ugh. I don't mean to start a flame war, but IMO, it's not a good product. I just used an iPad at the Apple store, and it's nothing but a giant iPod Touch. Nothing actually good about it, just bigger, and that's what America wants - bigger is better.
THANKS, GUILT1!

More iPad denial right here.

Obviously it has, or else we wouldnt be seeing all these other Android based tablets. Are you going to claim that every Android based device is just a giant-sized EVO (or whatever variant)?

Just accept the fact that the iPad is a successful device and move on.

I agree. How can you call it computing?
It's more of an intuitive, fast internet experience. And that's it.

I've been thinking of getting an iPad ever since I let my brother have my ipod touch. Now I don't really like the OS, and I don't necessarily like Apple's business practices, but there is one thing Apple has that can't be found anywhere else: the App Store. And don't anyone try to compare it to the Android Marketplace... I have an android phone and compared to the app store the marketplace is pathetic.

Wow. Two posts and six minutes before the first Apple hater had to chime in. You guys are getting faster and faster by the day.

Fair opinion to a degree. But what should not be lost is that bigger form factor here does enable some functionality that does not work very well on the iPhone/iPod Touch. Face it, the small screen does make web browsing or book reading cumbersome...do you really want to have to expand the page every time you see something you actually want to be able to read? Don't need to do that with the iPad. The larger screen is also a bit nicer for, say, watching a movie on a plane or in a car...not that the small screen can't do it too, but the larger screen is "better" in that scenario. (And the bigger is obviously not just an American thing, since the sales spike the article is about is due to the release outside of the US.)

So it's definitely a niche product, I completely agree...it's not a replacement for a laptop or a phone IMHO, it's another gadget people can buy if it interests them.

Also fair enough, but frankly I would hesitate to use the word "computing" for 95% of what any of us do with our PCs too. I see the iPad as an evolutionary step on the road I have been talking about for some years: the end of "big box" computers as we know them, to be replaced with specialized devices that are essentially "computers" inside but we won't use them that way anymore. Between set-top devices like Tivo, or NetFlix being built right into TVs, or MS Office/Google Apps being available in the cloud...99% of the world will have no use for a traditional "computer" in 10-15 years. (Heck they don't have it now, but getting people to recognize that and cut the cord is hard...)
