Everything in your post I 100% agree with, well said...except for this opening paragraph:

Quote:
Point is, us tech geeks (let's face it, we know much more about tech than others ) don't like the iPad because we know that it could have packed better specs, both hardware and software wise, and because it's voerpriced, yes it's true.
As I mentioned in another thread, please don't lump all tech geeks into that categorization. I am as geeky as any tech geek out there, I will go toe to toe with almost everyone reading this thread...and I think the iPad is a fine device. I won't go into more detail, I think everyone knows where I stand by now.

And again, everything else in the post was dead on.

She markets herself?

You do realize that all of those artists don't market themselves, they're marketed by someone at the record label.

And I take guitar and singing lessons, does that make me a trained guitarist and singer too?

And if by chance, I do get big and start performing in front of huge crowds, I'll be sure to let you know.

They don't want you getting anything on it unless you go through the app store.

i think it's fair to say that it isn't a computer without at least one of either of those ports.

not to mention how it runs a phone OS... it'd be a lot more compelling f it ran Mac OSX or Windows or Linux... FreeBSD... OpenSolaris... heck, SOMETHING that runs on a 'normal' computer, lol

Fair opinion to a degree. But what should not be lost is that bigger form factor here does enable some functionality that does not work very well on the iPhone/iPod Touch. Face it, the small screen does make web browsing or book reading cumbersome...do you really want to have to expand the page every time you see something you actually want to be able to read? Don't need to do that with the iPad. The larger screen is also a bit nicer for, say, watching a movie on a plane or in a car...not that the small screen can't do it too, but the larger screen is "better" in that scenario. (And the bigger is obviously not just an American thing, since the sales spike the article is about is due to the release outside of the US.)

So it's definitely a niche product, I completely agree...it's not a replacement for a laptop or a phone IMHO, it's another gadget people can buy if it interests them.

Also fair enough, but frankly I would hesitate to use the word "computing" for 95% of what any of us do with our PCs too. I see the iPad as an evolutionary step on the road I have been talking about for some years: the end of "big box" computers as we know them, to be replaced with specialized devices that are essentially "computers" inside but we won't use them that way anymore. Between set-top devices like Tivo, or NetFlix being built right into TVs, or MS Office/Google Apps being available in the cloud...99% of the world will have no use for a traditional "computer" in 10-15 years. (Heck they don't have it now, but getting people to recognize that and cut the cord is hard...)
brilliant post. balanced, reasonable, and arguing on the other side of the fence without making a flamewar or baiting anyone . i'd rep you if i could

well, to be fair, we have had tablets before, just they never seemed to do so well...

Sorry I just had to reply to this.

This is a forum; a place where people are welcomed to openly share their arguments, points of view, and their subjective interpretations of things. To say that someone is unwelcomed in a forum for their opinion defeats the purpose of posting threads in the first place.

Depends how much you want to put on it. I have 0 movies on my iPad because I stream it all from my desktop computer so that saves a lot of space for me.

It so hard to decide I just don't want to get it, then realize I need more memory later. On the flip side, I don't want to get the 32GB, then realize that I'm only using 10GB
