Hi cappy and shaj,

I've always been here!!! I just don't want to keep talking and posting to myself...

As for the weather. Yeah it's real nice! Spring will be here in 2 or 3 weeks! The Blue birds are already out and about, or is that black birds??

Those SMP's are really helping you cappy!
Shaj - I thought you added a rig to your sig from the school?? I haven't seen it post yet... I hope the school didn't shut down the computers over the weekend... And do you think they'll let you use the new computers for folding?? Wow that would be sweet for OCN!!

Well take care and stay in touch :-)

I turned it on today, the 80 gig hard drive i tried is detected, but the comp wont do anything with it. It like umm i cant explain what it does. But when i put that together today, i was suprised. I actualy did some cable management. Same with my comp. Ill post pics sometime

Hi cappy,

Keep working it! It is a struggle sometimes, but I think the rewards are great!

Take care, :-)

I might ask him sometimes later or even next year. The thing is I know he's gonna let me but I know it takes trust and resources (money of school) to have the computers fold 24/7. I don't want a criminal record for the rest of my life! jk, it might happen though.

Hi shajbot,

That is great news! It means that the school and Administration trust you already. I doubt seriously that they will fold for the cause when you graduate.

Criminal record?? LOL!!! That's really funny... Keep up the humor...

Take care, :-)

Just check my AMD 3800+ folding rig and realize it's not folding! It must have been like this for like couple weeks now. BUMMER!

Hi shajbot,

That is a real bummer!!! Oh well, live and learn...

I will have an AMD 3800+ folding by the weekend with Fedora 6!! Also the P4 3.2 will be folding with Fedora 6. This will be a great test to see how the rigs compare to Windows XP... I'm hoping much better...

I'm also bidding on several E6300's and E6400's on eBay. Maybe I'll get lucky. There just doesn't seem to be too many good deals there any more. Too many people bidding on stuff that they don't know the retail price of (like $220.00 for a E6400 plus $10.00 shipping, when you can buy one from ZipZoomFly for $222.00 and Free shipping!), or people trying to get top dollar for used cpu's. Go figure!

I wish people would get a grip and learn where to shop and what computer parts are worth... Ok that's my rant for the day!

Take care shaj and Fold On! :-)

Hi Guys,

As you know, I now have a 3.4 gig Prescott 468 Intel chip in my Shuttle SFF rig (it replaced a 2.8 Northy). There is NO room inside it to add fans. The case is about the size of a breadbox, and the HDD already has the skinny HS cooler with the two small fans. Also filling up the case is a DVD RW drive, a floppy (the floppy is currently removed in an effort to allow more air to get into the rig), a video card and a sound card. Since getting the hotter running Pressy, I had to upgrade my cooling, but it is not enough. What I did was remove the four thumb screws which held the CPU heatpipe/cooler against the inside of the back of the case, dremel out the mesh in front of the fins, and attach another fan the same size as the HS fan to the outside of the case. I used longer screws to attach the external fan (80 mm) and a grill into the heatpipe/cooler screw holes (`Sorry, I said it was a 40 mm fan in my earlier post). The two fans work together pretty well (both set at max speed), but I don`t think the HS is large enough to cool the hotter chip. The air exhausting is barely warm, which tells me that the HS is not removing heat fast enough. I used heat paste with silver in it, although it was not AS 5. I don`t think heat transfer from the chip to the HS is an issue, although I didn`t lap anything. The paste on the old chip was still just like "new", and removed easily. I did the thorough alcohol cleaning before applying the proper amount of paste on the new chip, and made sure I didn`t use too much. I`m of the opinion that lapping this chip would yield little if any more heat transfer in this present situation.

I don`t want to spend the money on phase, pelt or water, nor do I want the extra equipment I don`t have room for. I would like to find a 120 mm air cooler (or even larger) that I could mount externally at the back of my rig. However, I have yet to find one with heatpipes long enough and offset from the center of the HS in a manner in which I could accomplish an external mod. Does anyone know of such a cooler? I have already looked at most of the brands out there, but every one I`ve seen has the HS centered over the center of the fins. I`ve emailed a couple of "custom heatpipe" makers, but they don`t seem to cater to the small form factor rigs and their designs are "center to center" also. I`m considering making my own heatpipe cooler, but I don`t know the technology to it well enough. I would really like to find some manufacturer who specializes in what I`m trying to accomplish.
