Hey Labby,

I`ve now moved up to 526th place with 6141 points. I`ll have my rig down again one of these days when I get some time, so I can put in a copper HS with a miniblower fan. I also got some AS 5 for it. If that conquers the high temps, then I`ll start to OC the new chip.

So, it's finally getting spring-like outside, although I heard one more rain/snow mix on Sunday... How I hate the weather in Massachusetts. However, once we get into the warm spring weather, it will be beautiful outside. Anybody else here got their bike ready to go?
Hi boys - I'm back!!!

The first thing I did today was post here!! That is really a sign of an addict....

It was really, really nice in Tenn! Stayed in the upper 70's all weekend. Got a bit of a sunburn. You know us Northerners don't get much sun during the winter. It was a great race too - IMHO and my friends there are always nice to visit and stay with.

The bad news - Found 3 of 5 of my folding rigs down since Saturday. The SMP was one of them too. Got them all up and running to find that the cable was down. It's up now as well. The point totals for OCN and me should go up over the next few days.

The good news - I got my E6400 Conroe and Gigabyte DS3 M/B while I was gone! Now those will get going this weekend. Look out April. If I can keep everything on line I should be able to hit 120,000 points in one month. I'll have 13 rigs going by next Monday. Seems like an unlucky number, so I may have to get the XP1600 out of retirement. We'll see...

The weather here in Michigan was nice to come back too. 50 degrees last night and 60 right now. Beats the cold I left a week ago!

A couple of things to note... Looks like on 3/24 no points were awarded. Did Stanford go down? Just wondering...
And I also noticed some not so nice posts in the forum. I hope the forum does not go the way of others I've been a part of. It always seems to happen when forums get too big or those that don't have anything nice to add start taking part. That's why I left the other forums in 2003 and 2005, and that's why I usually post, in here, on our team's thread. You guys play nice...

Thanks for all you guys do!! Fold On!

Hey buick, welcome back. Did you have fun?

I'm start getting bored about folding already, with the low output points for Windows standard folding - only 400 pts for 3 days of folding, and that's on a A64 3800+. Back in the day it was a $300 piece of hardware (just early 2006). Now the mainstream is dual-core, and guess what the next big thing is - PS3 - proven massive power over traditional SMP, and only $600 apiece.

Hi shajbot!!

Thanks! I did have fun. My middle daughter went with me and I think she had a very good time as well. The weather was wonderful after 4 months of winter.

Yeah the points for the standard Windows WU's is pretty bad. I know that Stanford and VJ Pande are looking into that and will soon make some changes in their next version of folding. They might also lower the SMP/GPU point totals for folding as well. They wanted feedback on the beta project and with high points to be gained, they got it. They'll probably equalize everything in a few months, so hang in there.
I does get boring sometimes, and for me expensive, but I think overall it is for a very good cause. Your generation will be the benefactors of all of this science! I'm a little too old at 55, to really be able to see anything soon.

However, the day will come when certain diseases like Alzheimer's and Parkinson's will be like TB, and will be a thing of the past! In my father's day TB was a real killer. Now you don't even hear about it. Small pox was another killer disease that you don't even hear about now. So...

Take care and have fun! You deserve it... :-)

Hi shajbot,

While I was unloading the car from my trip I got to thinking. And I checked just a few minutes ago - A person I feel sorry for - QMopar!!

His first record of completing a WU was 1-09-05. He was probably the #1 folder for OCN for almost 2 years. He now does not even make the top 20! Wow... The last I checked he had over 35 rigs folding as well... The newer technology has really caught up to him. Heck, FrankenPC puts out more points with one SMP rig than he does with 35!

As to your point about the PS3. I see that a group will be passing us in 5.3 months using the new PS3 folding WU's... Not too bad, I'd say. Not too good either, but hey, that's life I guess.

Since I left the Folding team competition, I feel more relaxed. I only have to answer to myself and not try and perform at 110%!

I think you, cappy, LBN and hvac are doing great! Besides it's only for fun, right? :-)

Take care friend!

Hi guys,

I hope you don't mind me adding a post once in a while to your thread. Just let me know if it's a problem, I'm not looking to offend anyone.

First it's important to know that WinSMP was created for Quad cores. The higher end Intels can make the deadlines with breathing room but the AMD's are not as good at folding these units. Mine are just making the deadlines. Here are my times just to show you what I mean.

Conroe E6600 @ 3.2GHz 34 WU per month avg ~44000 pts

2610 - 12 minutes per frame - 20 hours
2651 - 13.5 minutes per frame - 22.5 hours
2652 - 12 minutes per frame - 20 hours

Athlon X2 3800 @ 2.5GHz 16 WU per month avg ~22000 pts

2610 - 38 minutes per frame - 62 hours
2651 - 26 minutes per frame - 43 hours
2652 - 19 minutes per frame - 31.5 hours

For quad core, just cut my Conroe times in half and then double the monthly points. I have read most of Vijay's posts on WinSMP and he has said it was a great feat to get SMP working with Windows. It's easy to set up and works well for me. I never was able to get Linux working but it still gives the most points from what I've read. Use what works for you, it all helps the cause and they are happy to get the help with whatever method you use.

Glad you had a fun trip Buick! Hopefully it made up for the last one. That E6400 will be your best folder. Since you've had good luck with Linux, you will most likely have better points than I have posted.
