Hi shajbot,

Nope no warning.... And I don't think they have to either. Even my rig with battery back up went down. I guess it could have been worse though. Last week during a thunderstorm, one of the folks at work lost their battery back up UPS with a lightning strike on or near their home. Smoked it! At least it saved their computer though...

We just don't realize how dependent we are on electricity, water, natural gas or propane and gasoline these days. Without those we'd be back to the turn of the century... I remember those days! he,he,he...

Take care, :-)

Yeah, I agree that we're too dependent. My parents are considering maybe installing solar panels on our roof so that we can generate our own power on a sunny day (we have a big roof that faces perfectly south). And with rising energy prices, those panels would pay themselves off pretty quickly.

But, the sun isn't out today. My dad and I canceled our hike up to Mt. Monadnock because there are supposed to be thunderstorms in the area. Try again on wednesday.

Also, even though I'm on summer vacation, I'm trying to stay off my computer as much as possible and maybe only use it for gaming for a few hours a day just to keep folding up.

Hey LBN,

That's good news - staying off your computer as much as possible - I mean. When the weather permits, going outdoors is the thing to do. That hike sounded like fun... too bad about the weather.

Solar panels... They've come a long ways from the old style and type. If you live in a sunny area they could keep people going. In Michigan I don't get a lot of sun and my house has a lot of pine trees around it. Which means a lot of shade and pine needles... I can't get grass to go in the backyard due to the shade and the pine needles making the ground acidic.

Well have a great day and take care, :-)

Wow, I just discussed using solar panel with my mom yesterday. The thing is we don't even use that much power. Only the refrig runs 24/7 but it pauses when the low temperature is reached, so it's not really 24/7. But we have 4, that's right FOUR computers for everyone in the family lol, and my rig alone takes quite some kwatts to run.

But we live in an apartment, I wonder if we could install a panel on our roof.

Yay! An album that I asked for for my birthday finally arrived! We had to cancel the order from Amazon, and it turns out that Overstock had one copy left...

It's an album called Burn the Sun. It's by a rather unknown Norwegian progressive metal band called ARK. There self-titled debut is definitely closer to rock/regular metal, but this album is straight-up prog metal. Weird, but in that good way. Band broke up in 2002, so it's been hard finding the albums. They only ever had two. The drummer (John Macaluso) used to play for Yngwie Malmsteen, and the vocalist (Jorn Lande) has sung with many bands, including for Yngwie. The guitarist (Tore Ostby) has played in a bunch of weird projects, but he is a phenomenal guitarist. The album I just got also featured Randy Coven (used to play with Steve Vai, but was discovered when Yngwie blew up the PA at a concert and all you could here was Coven's massive bass amp wall) on bass and Mats Olaussen (Yngwie) on keyboard.
