Hi cappy,

Your main rig is slowing down?? Maybe the load and heat?? Good luck with the hard drive... Were you able to buy a new one?? Oh and one last thing. Did you receive the CD-ROM/DVD player? And if so, How'd it work?? Just curious...

As for the hard drive. I have my old back up SATA Maxtor drive in my main rig. I could possibly format it, and put it in my youngest daughters rig that has the 2.6C/MSI motherboard. That M/B can use SATA drives. I just don't know about the FAT32 file system on a 160Gb hard drive... I guess it would work? That would leave a WD 80Gb for borrowing... but it also means losing some folding time with the two rigs. I'll let you know what I intend to do.

As for me. I've had enough of the ATI X850Pro I have... It's been screen blacking out a lot lately... It's not heat, if the temps are correct, they're reading 35degC on the GPU... I've updated the drivers and ATI control center and tools. Nothing seems to helped. THe screen goes black and then VPU recovery kicks in sometimes. Sometimes the monitor screen is really a mess with artifacts everywhere. So bad in fact you can't see anything on the screen. So in a fit of rage I bought a BFG 7800GS OC. Should be here by the weekend... I'll let know know how it goes... I'll probably run a couple of benchmarks and compare it to the ATI...

As of now everything seems Ok with the folding rigs... Just completed a baby one of 53 points...

Hi shajbot,

I'm just as confused... According to Stanford, I am ranked 80th.. I just lost another WU. A Gromac p1861. It went for 15 hours and then according to the FAH log, couldn't complete any more frames and quit. It gave me a whopping 3 points for 15 hours of machine time... I'm now working on a p2505 WU. Hope this one completes Ok... I have only one totally completed WU today. A p1607 for 53 points, this was from my P4 2.53 rig. And now 3 points more for a failed WU on my main rig...

I guess the current batch of Gromac cores is really bad or something. My rig is stable, no heating issues or other stuff like power bumps, etc. I don't know what's going on. It seems to be only my main rig (see sig) - the 3.2C on the MSI 865PE.

I'll keep you guys up to date, :-)

Got the drive, works great. Ill be shipping it out tomorow if not today, as for the hard drive i havnt tested it again yet. But WHY would a windows restart fry a hard drive?

Hi cappy,

I'm glad the drive worked out for you. As for the hard drive. Did you say that you had to re-install Windows XP? Did that include re-formatting, etc..? I heard and read that fdisking and formatting really works a hard drives mechanical/electrical parts. So Just guessing that maybe it was a mechanical failure with the bearings, optical pick up or possibly the bios/cache chip... Don't really know.. I do know they are warranteed for 50,000 hours or so. That equates to about 6.5 years. So depending on how old it is, how much it's used, etc...
Remember back a couple of years ago when IBM had drives failing after only 2 years or so because IBM used "their" numbers of only 15 hours a day user time which equaled less than 25,000 hours or so.. Bad PR for them. They eventually sold the hard drive business to Hitachi.

Take care, :-)

Hey 455buick,

Do you have any flags go with your F@H folding? Like -advmethods and -forceasm stuff like that. I have found that the -advmethods limit you to get only the WUs from the new generation, which are fast folders, but also error contained. For more info you can check out standford F@H forum. For me, I just removed -advmethods from both of my machines two days ago, one got the Tinker core core 65, one got the 404pts core 78. Notice these cores are old and don't get corrupt anytime. The new core 7a (with -advmethods) which I used to fold with sometimes corrupted and I had to redownload and got on with the drill...

I'm currently folding those 2 cores 65 and 78, and it's taking quite long already (both over 1 day), should be finished by tomorrow (hopefully).

Hey cappy,

Did you try different IDE cable and different molex plug, I found that HD get quite sensitive if those things ain't working.

Thanks all and take care.

Its older than 6.5 years but If you guys wanted iv got a intel celeron 2.2 northwood sittin next to me for a my mom for at least a week. I could put folding on that. Unless your computers are faster than it. But what ever gives most production would be best i think.

Buick, did you get hit by those storms last night? I shut the comp down around 4:00AM. The thunder was huge ik mean it knocked 2 fans out of windows. Plus i didnt feel like having another fried computer.

Hi shajbot,

Thanks for the advice... I checked, and all of the flags are turned off. So I think some of the problem with points, WU's and such id Stanford's. They seem to be having server trouble..

Keep folding - You're doing great!! I'm glad you're on our team and not someone elses!! :-)

I also turned off my hyperthreading on the two P4's that can do that. I seem to have gotten about a 10% increase in timing on the frame completion. I guess everyone was right!

Take care, :-)
