Hard drives indeed go down quite frequently around this time of the year...First cappy, now me...

Anyway, take care and fold on!
Hi shajbot,

Sorry to hear about that!! Man this has been a tough month for our team. Thunder storms, bad hard drives, power outages, and weird stuff from Stanford!

Oh well.. It will make us better and tougher! :-)

Ok boys... The 7800GS video card has been loaded in. Took a little longer than I thought, but it's in. So far so good... I'll let it burn in, before I do anything to it. I'm running the latest Forceware drivers as well, I think?? They're the 84.21 WHQL approved drivers.
I'm also anxious to see if the ATI - VPU recovery/black screens/driver problems was also effecting the folding and causing me to loose WU's...
It's been a weird week...
The last couple of days I've lost 5 WU's. 2 - p1861's and 3 p1607's.. All of them Gromacs... I've received a whopping 74 points for those in-complete WU's and lost about 20 hours or so.. So we'll see.

Taking off the hyperthreading seems to have boosted the folding seconds per frame as well, maybe 5-10%. I'll stay off my main rig for a while with gaming and such to see if any thing else pops up and to let things "settle in". So if you don't see me too much posting in the forum this weekend, don't worry, I'll be back. LOL

I'm also seeing power problems at my brother's house. Lost a WU there as well. So Team_Folders_Inc won't see a completed WU until Sunday, I hope. I'll let taeric know when it completes...

I hope everybody enjoys their weekend!

Take care and Fold On! :-)

Ok, 455buick, it's indeed a rough month for us, but we can start seeing some good progress'es. I've been using my folding comp for recoverying the broken hard drive and after roughly 24 hours, I was able to fully restore the data and get my main rig up and working again. Although I seem like doing this very efficient but I hate it everytime...but good experience though, so hopefully I don't have to do it again (very likely).

Btw, 455buick. Why do you need graphic card for folding? And how do you receive partial pts for incompleted WU? It's great that you got your 7800gs now, you should get it AS5'ed anytime asap.

Have a good weekend, and keep it foldin'

Hi shajbot,

Hey. if I seem like I'm placing pressure on you or anyone else, I apologize! My posting here and comments thereof is not meant to do that... I just get frustrated with all of the issues I've been dealing with and I "feel" for you guys having the same stuff happen. It's maddening to me...

As a team we are making Great progress! I'm really happy with everybody that is part of this and overclock.net in general. I've made some good friends here and I haven't had one flame against me, nor have I seen any in this forum. That's really the great stuff here!!

As for the video card/monitor/graphics thing... Since I started folding back in February, I've had 2 montior failures. Both were old and on their last legs. What I didn't expect was to loose WU's when that happened, but i did. And to your question, I don't think anybody knows why. I posted in the forums at Stanford asking the question and nobody can give me a real definitive answer. So I don't know... taeric and others here state that it is quite common for WU's to fail, expecailly the Gromacs core.
Up to this month I only lost 3 WU's. 1 - p2053 and 2 - p2106's. Since June 1st, I've lost 4 WU's. 2 - 2106's, 1 - 1861 and 1 - 2107. There were no points awarded for these WU's. Now I just recently in the past 2 days had 3 WU's fail to complete. 2 - 1607 and 1 - 1861. For these I received 25, 31 and 12 points according to the Folding.extremeoverclock spreadsheet..

Why I was awarded those points, I have no idea... The only thing I can come up with is the recent VPU recovery issues I've been seeing with the ATI X850 pro video card. I contacted ATI and they replied with a lot of general ideas but nothing specific, even though I sent the error messages to them. Most of the VPU recovery messages stated that the driver was unable to connect with the cars.. ?? I have no idea what that means and neither does ATI. I ran the gambet of installing new drivers, re-inatalling the old ones, etc... Heat is not issue according to the ATI tools and I ran everything back to stock with regard to timings anyway... Still got a black screen or major artifacts at least every other day... Was this the problem I experienced with the June 19th download, upload, download and upload game with Stanford that left me with "918 points" and 53 completed Wu's?? Don't know. Only time will tell at this point in time.

Perhaps a ddr chip of other component failed or is failing on the ATI card?? Either way, I bought a new nVidai card and will see how it goes...
As for the AS5 on the new 7800GS. At this point in time I'm going to let it "burn" in. When and if the aftermarket make a third party cooler for it, then I'll change out the heat transfer compound to AS5 and the cooler as well... Artic Silencer may have a new cooler out this month. Well see about that..

For now, my main rig is running stable (for the last 24 hours at least) and I hope it continues to do so. As you say, playing around with these things is nice, but not something I want to do continuosly. If I did, I would have stayed with Windows Me on all of my rigs and really had some fun. Not!!
The in-stability is not good for Stanford either. They're hoping to get all of their WU's returned with zero errors and completed with data they can use.. So that's a pretty long winded answer, so I'll leave it at that.

Like I said. I apprciate you being part of our team - Folders Inc, you folding for overclock.net and based on your posts a good person. :-)

Thanks for all of your time and support, :-)

Hi cappy,

Yeah those p2108's are killers!! A lot of points, but spread over a lot of days. If you could complete one a day, then Wow, that would be really nice. 4 or 5 days is typical with those WU's. The advantage I have with 3 rigs is that one seems to always get a Big WU! Like a 20,000 or 50,000 frame type. The other 2 rigs then seem to get the little ones worth 53 to 200 points.. So it all averages out.

Take care and talk to you soon, :-)

Hey 455buick,

I think I'm the one need to appologize now. I was too a little too frustrating about recovering my hard drive that I took some bad expression in the post above that made you think you're placing pressure on us, but actually I do not think you'd ever do. So sorry all, it's just some bad time that we all have to go through and I think it's great if we can still share those good and bad times here.

I hope everyone feels the same way too, and thanks ALOT for being here, all of us in Folders Inc.

As for me, folding is still stable, just taken sometimes fixing the cd drive and already back up online. Just also ordered a 320GB WD drive, should hold me about for couple of years. heheh

Hope everyone enjoy their weekend, keep us informed guys, take care.

Hi shajbot,

Heck no!! No apologies needed. We are a team... We will really kill them in July... Hopefully all of our troubles are behind us now. :-)

BTW - I just finished my first WU for Team_Folders_Inc It was a 200 pointer and a 178 pointer will complete on Tuesday I hope. I'm going to add a 5th rig for the cause tonight or tomorrow... Stanford seems to be having server problems tonight though!

taeric - If your out there: Team_Folders_Inc is now official.. and according to Stanford my computer/rig count is back to 3!

Take guys and I'll talk with you tomorrow, :-)
