Hi guys,

Just one last thing - with regard to my X850 Pro video card. I replaced it a couple of weeks ago because -
< It was screen blacking out a lot lately... It's not heat, if the temps are correct, they're reading 35degC on the GPU... I've updated the drivers and ATI control center and tools. Nothing seems to helped. The screen goes black and then VPU recovery kicks in sometimes. Sometimes the monitor screen is really a mess with artifacts everywhere. So bad in fact you can't see anything on the screen. >

I finally checked over the video card and found a blown capacitor! The little devil failed, but it was very hard to find and see... The card is definitely a dead one now... The 7800GS is working great though!

Take care, :-)

Hey 445buick, do you think you can get the same capacitor off some hardware store and solder (maybe just hotwire) it back to its place? If it's successful you got your video card back with very little cost.

Just a quick update, by the time we speak, Qwest repairman has already arrived and fixed up the phone line, it works great now! W00t, I'm thankful.

Too bad about the X850, but man, you're a lucky duck to have gotten a 7800GS. What are your benchies like?

Soldering almost never works properly, and he'd probably damage the card futher. Good to hear phone's working again.

God, looking at the results, I just have to say one thing: Buick, you are a beast! Nearly 50000 points in a month - that's got to count for something. And now that most peoples' problems are ironed out, maybe we can make fourth or even third next month! Keep folding guys, you're doing great.

Hi shajbot,

That is great news about the phone line! It's really good to see you guys post in here and keeping up to date on stuff... I really love this team.

Thanks again to all of you for just being you! :-)

As for the video card. I am going to take it to my computer lab boys. They have all of the fancy soldering tools, parts, microscopes (for tiny pieces) and the steady hands. They repair computer boards for the company, since those computers were design and built by Dow. No Intel or AMD stuff here. Maybe they can help me out and solder a new one in or something. If it works, great; if not I'm not out a dime... Well maybe a beer or two... lol

Take care, :-)

Hi LBN,

As for the 7800GS. Yeah it was a pretty sweet deal. I bought a new one on eBay for $225.00. The guy bought it, never used it and then went to a PCI-E motherboard. His loss or change of heart is my gain... As for the benchies. I just got it overclocked to 475/700! That's a 19% gain on the core and a 12% gain on the memory, (400/625 stock speeds). Seems to be working real good on the games I play. The temps are not bad either. It's running 44 or 45degC. That's only up a degree or 2 from stock. It still has the stock cooler, since nobody makes an aftermarket one for it, yet... Maybe Artic Silencer, but not until August some time, if ever...

I'll bench the card sometime this week. I don't want to waste my computer time on benchmarks when I can be folding, you know... lol

As for your comment about 50,000 points in a month? Where did you get that info?? I figure about 11,600 with 3 rigs for Folders Inc and about 1,100 points for Team_Folders_Inc... The little XP1600 is working on a monster Gromac core (p1811) worth 512 points and the XP1800 is working on a p2107 worth 404 points... So by the end of the week Team_Folders_Inc will have almost 2,200 points.

Thanks for the compliment though!! I couldn't have done it without you!! :-)

Hey buick,

That's a good deal you got there though, I just looked up 7800GS on newegg and most of them are at $300 range. Me might as well upgrade this FX5200 but I'll wait to upgrade the whole thing to PCI-E (or something better in the future) .

Hey cappy,

If the computer just restarted you can set it so that fold start everytime computer starts so you don't have to watch over it.

Take care and fold on.
