Team Folders Inc. (No members needed) - Page 82

Hi guys,

Just a quick update... The second GPU rig has gone nuts!!! Lots of BSOD's, it goes to sleep regularly, won't report progress, etc... I folded 1 WU and then it went crazy... Still trying to figure it out.

I'm back with just 3 rigs folding. 1 - GPU, 1 - FX-55, 1 - P4 3.2 The Stanford site shows more, but they just don't know the trouble I've seen. If you don't believe me, check out my completed WU number. 1151 WU's completed??? Not true!!! I completed over 300 WU's in the past 4 days... Yeah right. If so, then where are my points??? he,he,he...

The second GPU has some issues with memory, page filing or just completing WU's. I've got Bruce and Uncle Fungus helping me out over there on their forums. I'll keep in touch!

Take care and Fold On!!! :-)

It looks like that the computers at school started to fold frequently again. Yay!

Wow Jimmy2Shoe is doing almost as much as our entire Team_Folders_Inc. Buick, when do you think you can implement this SMP into our team? But GFX folding > SMP right?

Well, I don't know about that I'm running 2 cores, so you have to figure I'm doing about 700ppd per core. The WUs are good on SMP too: only 587 and 1760 pointers.

The great thing is that it's only @ 80% capacity... they haven't optimised the smp core yet, so I can expect a 25% increase in PPD once they've figured it all out.

GFX is great... Buick is the only folder who is in the team competition that racks up as many points as me (or close to)... if you want to help Stanford out with a BETA than SMP is a great way to go... it is beta, I've had a few WUs fail on me for no reason (not many mind) but when they do I check the site to see if it was reported.

If you need any help setting it up, just PM me... I'm here all the time sadly :-( ... but probably will be less active once I've done my finals (hopefully will be going out more!)

Hi shajbot, cappy and peroxide,

I'm really sorry, but I can't seem to get the gpu rig folding right. And
I can't do SMP, no dual core... As for the 2nd GPU rig... It's still having a driver problem I think. The guys over at Stanford (Bruce and J7M) are trying to help, but no answers as of yet. I'm showing 4 active folding rigs because the gpu rig did complete 1 WU last Wednesday... According to Stanford, each rig has it's own distinct number. For the 2nd gpu rig it's E605E312B972A8A. It's the same for either a gpu core or cpu core. So I switched it over to cpu folding until I get it worked out. It won't be a gpu, but it is an AMD64 3800 Venice core. So I hope it can get some good point totals for the month. I think it will be faster than my P4 3.2 anyway. The P4 is my main rig and I like to listen to music, do a little gaming and such so it does slow down.

Anyway, maybe by month's end I'll have it running the gpu WU's.... Who knows, maybe earlier... I'll keep in touch.

Take care, :-)

Hi jimmy,

Yeah the gpu folding is great, but the 2nd rig of mine just won't stabilize. Not sure why. A lot of BSOD's for sure. Just like last month when I started gpu folding. I think ATI tweaked the drivers and now it runs un-stable. I've been in contact with ATI support and Stanford. I've tried everything you can think of...

As for the points. If I pulled all 10 rigs I have and placed them on my 455buick sig, I'd be doing pretty good from an individual perspective. I think my 7 rigs are beating my 3 rigs pretty good. Then you add shajbot and his school's 9 rigs to my 7 and you have a powerhouse for points and folding for Team_Folders_Inc. I hope OCN appreciates shajbot's efforts in doing this and his schools Ok...

Take care and Fold On!! :-)

ok boys, here's my rant!

If it weren't for you guys and Folders Inc I'd quit folding all together... It's just not worth the effort for the little gain I get.
I just spent the last 6 days trying to get a gpu rig going with no success. All Stanford wants to do is tell me that it's a "Beta Program" No ShXX!!!
I think I've narrowed it down to the DDR or a bad Windows XP install... not sure.

As for the other rigs. Mine keeps going bonkers... aka like LBN this past summer. I can't used my default E-mail program Outlook or even Outlook Express. Corrupted .pst files with no way to figure out which ones they are. The error mesage: 0x80040600 tells me the problems resides in a folder I don't even have. I guess that's the problem, but how do I get that folder back?? I've alredy tried restore and some other third party Outlook restore program with no success... And to make matters worse, Windows keeps telling me that something is wrong with it's update program and now can't send the error messages it so likes to do. Even with the error message box turned off, I get 10 or 12 messages every morning to clear off my desktop. This WAS a clean install of Windows XP on a new hard drive just 2 months ago. Now all of this???

My other 2 rigs used by my daughters are also having their share of random re-starts, BSOD's, and other related software problems. I might turn off FAH on thess rigs altogether. Team_Folders_Inc won't need the points anyway. Sorry Team 37726!

At this point in time, I don't believe for a minute that FAH is a small little program running in the background using "Only" un-used cpu cycles. I also tend to believe the folks at Stanford have a "new" crop of reseachers/students and they are not as good as researchers/students in the past....

And one last thing. The p2124 to p2141 Gromacs cores. 359 to 396 points for these poorly written programs that crash, take a lot of time to finish for little or no points. What gives???? I realize that they are Gromacs cores and are long winded, but when my rig works on one for 3 days, gets 70% complete and then have it shutdown with errors and give 14 points for 70 hours worth of computer time. Not good! And I wasn't even using the computer, except E-mails and web surfing. I haven't gamed or listened to music or used the computer in any real sense for over 2 months now. Come on... I need a break! And I think whomever benchmarked those cores and assigned them the points had his or her calculator turned off and did the crunching of numbers in their peanut size head with no brain....

There I've said my piece. I just wanted you to know that the frustration level for me right now is very, very high!

Take care and Happy Holidays,

buick is outta of here.... and I might not be back for awhile!

Hi Buick,

This month is stressful anyway and you certainly have done everything trying to get every inch of folding power you can (Very commendable btw!). I will say that a computer folding perfectly at stock is much better than not folding at all. This competition should be fun, not an obsession that wears on you.

It really shouldn't be about where we place in competition, I enjoy the team effort as a whole (37726). Watching how you guys figure out ways to get more points has been enjoyable for me. It's the overclocking spirit on a different level.

We all should be enjoying this time of year and hopefully you can step back and relax until your ready to enjoy it again. I hope you and your family have a great Christmas and New Year. I know my family is happier when I spend time with them instead of my computers. Take care.

Hi cappy,

Sorry for the rant! man I get really frustrated with this stuff... It shouldn't be that way, but I just can't get it going. THe 2nd gpu rig is not able to fold with the cpu client either. Same error message 0xc0000005! Along with a blue screen or two....

As for the team. I guess LBN or myself should ask peroxide his intentions. I really don't want to kick him off though. He's been here since the beginning. As Compaddict posted, maybe we/I are taking this team competition thing too seriously?? 4th place is good and we've been a solid team contributor for almost a year now. Along with that, look at what Team_Folders_Inc is doing... No other group as the same 2nd team going with such a high lever of WU's completed.... I think taeric and OCN should be proud of our contribution... Team_Folders_Inc has been in the top 5 producers for a couple of months now, and even beat QMopar a couple of times.

Time to count our blessings. Thanks for being on my team. It's you, shajbot, LBN and peroxide that makes this all worth while.

I'll keep trying the gpu rig. Believe me, you guys will be absolutely the first to know about any successes!

Take care and Happy Holidays!
