So in total, soon i will have 4 or 5 comps that can fold. Iv got a old 1800+ here, my 2700 getting up soon, a 3200+, my sig one which will be dual core soon, and i might to together a old P3 for the heck of it. Its only 933. So soon ill be adding rigs to team folders inc, and should see a little jump in score. Oh, and another thing, i set my dads comp to fold, and the antivirus says folding is a virus..haha. Ill just make it so it ignores it. BUICK!! Time for my question, have any old socket 754 mobos around? id be willing to buy one or two depending on how many you had. Same with a p3 mobo, dont know what socket. When i upgrade, hmm maybe ill just sell my x800 to someone, and buy a cheap 40$ mobo and put my 3500 in it for my new spare, then just use this one still with either a 3800x2, opty 165(more than likely) or a 4200 and 4400... But that also involves buying a 7600GT. Ill figure it out

EDIT- we posted seconds apart! wow

Hi LBN,

Long time no hear, but I'm glad you are still around.. What do you think of your team now?? Still going strong after almost a year! You are a fine judge of character, if I must say so myself...

Take care and stay in touch, :-)

Hi hvac and Welcome aboard!

Nice sig! We'll head them up and move them out in February! shajbot and cappy are having quite a race and you'll be up there in no time... Just keep the cards and letters, I mean computer folding....

Stop by anytime and let us know how we can help. I think you'll find this is a very good team, but most of all "a great group of folks"!

Take care, :-)

Hi cappy,

That is great news! 4 or 5 folding rigs, Nice! As for the motherboard question. I don't have any 754 socket M/B's and my only ASUS P3B motherboard for a Slot 1 P3 died with a bad BIOS flash...

As for me, I'll be working on getting the SMP rig going today and tomorrow. I hope shajbot is ready for all of my questions... I'm setting up the hardware today before I go to work. Tomorrow will be the software and loading up the SMP client. We'll see how it goes...

Take care and stay warm,

Hey cappy,

One more thing.. You might want to change your sig to reflect hvac as a new member. You might also want to mention that LBN and peroxide are our "official" mentors now... Still folding, and still part of our family here at OCN.

See ya,

EDIT- we posted seconds apart! wow[/quote]

Well cappy, great minds think a like!!

Alright guys and girls, how's everyone doing?

Buick, did you figure out the SMP stuff yet? Got stuck somewhere?
Cappy, I was just ahead of your couple days ago and now you still lead. Nice man, keep up the competition.!
Hvac, again welcome man, have a great stay. Did you notice we have members from every parts of the country. Buick and cappy are in the North, you're in the Middle and me in the West lol.

`Sorry Guys,

`Accidentally caught the "enter" key with my fingernail. Anyway, I`m an old fart who keeps himself in shape with the above, but I like computers and I think I`ll like folding too. I don`t know if this will help, but I just bumped up my CPU to 3129mhz (up from stock 2800mhz). It has been going at that speed for about 6 hours without a big load on it, so the temp. is still around 43 C. I also bumped up my RAM volts a little, and the temps have stayed at that level. I have to watch my little cooker "breadbox", so it won`t heat up. I have the poor man`s cooling; ie, the cover removed and an external blower fan blowing on it with a speed controller. The speed is adjusted only about halfway to keep the noise down, but I still have enough cooling. I never shut off this rig, so my contribution should be helpful (I hope). Since I joined the team my stats are:~~~ 1296 (certificate), W.U. 7, and rank 234717 of 600911. That`s probably not nearly what the rest of you guys can do, but I have to be careful, `cuz this is also my business rig and I would be really hampered without it. Anyway, let me know what you think.

1. Hit http://redhat.download.fedoraproject.../6/x86_64/iso/ and download Disc1 and burn it on a CD. You only need disc 1 for the very basic functions of Fedora Core 6. I didn't know so I downloaded all 6 discs, turned out I only used 1.

2. If you have a spare drive then it's best. Otherwise, remember what volumes you have data on (it should be already partitioned). So if you have a unused drive, just pop the CD in and start the installation. When it asks you to hit some key, hit it and let it process.

3. Installation
Here's the part where people finds it the most confused. It's gonna ask you about how to set up the drive and the root folders and what not. Remember you have to set up these 2 main directory. /boot and something with /swap and you have to select the right type of format for these directory to work. I find it quite confusing but just use your common sense as in if it says you need something then add that. The first time I worked with it, it didn't let me so I read around (no manual, everything is on the installation screen) and added the missing directories and what not. Then process with installation.

4. Post configure
After you done with that you're pretty much set. It'd ask you to set the root password. Give it a password and move on. The next time it asks you to login, remember your username is "root" without the "" (or it could be admin I couldn't remember).

If your internet works fine after that then you're pretty much done (check by opening FF and try some website like google). Go to Standford page, follow the installation note and you'll have SMP set up.

It wasn't too hard for me because I've done some coding and SSH in Linux before but it shouldn't be too hard for anyone here either, since we're premium PC users. Good luck

Btw, Team_folders_inc is closing on you buick, in fact, it's right behind you, watch out.
Hi shajbot,

Well your instructions are a little vague. I downloaded the Disk 1 from your link. I read all of the info I could on the redhat web site.

Problem - Burning this to a CD isn't that easy. It's an ISO program and neither Windows or my Plextor CD burning software can make a copy that is useable. So I'm no where right now. The computer starts and then can't boot into anything so it just loops around from the basic BIOS start up mode. I have the BIOS reading the CD-ROM as the first boot up device. The only hardware I have on the rig is a regular PCI video card. It's new, but requires no additional power. The hard drive and CD-ROM are recognized by the BIOS and voltage levels are fine. No overclocking yet...

So what program did you use to burn your copy of the Fedora to a CD?? Is there any other "special" instructions I should be aware of to get a bootable disk??? I'll wait for your reply. SMP will have to wait. I've waited this long for a good folding rig, I can wait a little longer.

BTW - I'm going to need Step by step instructions for this downloaded set up program. I don't think it is as easy as everyone says it is...

Take care, :-)

Hi hvac,

Good to see you here posting and chatting with us. All ready overclocking hey?? Big Wink... Those are pretty decent numbers for OC and heat. My P4 2.8 is at 3.01 or a 215 fsb. I had to take it down some a couple of weeks ago. Too many problems with my farm. I have 3 rigs folding for Folders Inc (our team) and 6 folding for Team_Folders_Inc (team 37726). I'm trying to get a 10th rig going with an SMP client. Hopefully shjabot and others can help with that. I have to run redhat/Fedora on that rig and it's a bit different from Windows XP.

Take care and Fold On, :-)
