Go here: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BurningIsoHowto and DL the program. You have to burn the image then it will work for you (Strange but that's how it works). It wants disk 1 & 2 for the basic install (I tried unchecking everything and it still needed both disks).

Then go here: http://fedora.redhat.com/docs/instal...ting-from-disc See if you can get further than I did. After installing, all I get is a prompt " Grub> " and that's it. Let me know if you figure it out, I would like to get this running myself.
Hi compaddict,

Well I didn't get as far as you. Using the link you provided for InfraRecorder, I still do not get pass the nvidia boot loader. No splash screen or anything like that. I'm trying to use a Gigabyte M/B GA-K8NF-9 Version 2.2 It has the NF4 chipset and an AMD64 X2 3800+ loaded unto it. It's only running at 27degC! So maybe it's the difference in motherbords??

I don't know at this point. I tried to set up two identical gpu rigs and had no success with the second one. So I thought I'd go SMP. Oh well...

Take care, :-)

I hear ya Buick.

I thought it was going to be a piece of cake the way it was installing, then the reboot threw me off. I tried to install VMWare too but had an installation error as well. Heck, I'm even concidering trying Win 98! My 2 Win XP's are OEM so I'm out of OS's. Linux would be a perfect solution. I hope we can get it figured out.

Could you just VMware to fold on? Check the FAQ in my sig. Just put together today

Edit: Saw you were trying VMware. Either way, check out the FAQ.

Thanks cappy!

I will give it a try if this doesn't work out. If I have problems with it, I will ask you how you did it.

I will check that out bdattilo. Great timing I would say! I just need an OS for my 3rd system and hate to buy one right now. I can run VMWare on the other two hopefully with your FAQ.

Thanks!

Hi compaddict,

Here's the deal. I know Windows XP will load , so I think it's the copied disk. In this era of not giving up, I ordered a set up 6 disks for $9.00. I will be getting them this week or early next week. If I can get the rig up and running, I'll post back here and let you know.

We could then exchange the disks so you can get up and running. You can copy them and send the originals back to me. Then I think it should be a piece of cake! As far as the set up goes, I still might need some help. It looks like the Fedora 6 is a lot like the old DOS based systems. You need to set the computer and file system up so the O/S can access everything. With just a folding rig, it won't need a lot of drivers or add on programs.

All I'm going to need is to load the video card driver - a Geforce MX4000 PCI card and the drivers for M/B LAN and nVidia chipset. Then the Folding client. I'm hoping that it goes easier than my attempt to set up a second gpu folding rig. The good news with that is: that rig is now my main rig with the X1950XTX (see the sig below). Man that video card is fast when playing my older games! I get to use all of the eye candy and 1680/1050 resolution. Wow is all I can say about that...

Take care, :-)

Hi bdattilo,

Nice FAQ on SMP and VMware!!! I read it and may go that route if this Fedora 6 thing does not work out. However, setting up a Virtual Machine might be a little beyond me at this point. It would be time consuming at the very least. That's why I just want to plug in a Linux based O/S and start folding SMP's. Nice and easy stuff, I think... But then again, maybe not.

Take care and Keep you the great work! :-)

Did I show you this buick? Fedora Core 6 if set up properly would look somewhat like Windows XP. The thing with the command line is the terminal and can be executed manually from menus. Here's a screenshot of my SMP attempt, but because of the single core (A64 3800+) it doesn't even let me run.

Hi shajbot,

You didn't show me the above screen shot, but after reading reviews and visiting the Fedora 6 web site it looks real good. As I mentioned in an earlier post, I will be getting 6 disks of Fedora 6. So I hope to have it running and the rig folding SMP's within a week.

Sorry I haven't posted earlier, but the garage door broke yesterday and I spent 6 hours in sub 20 temps to repair it. My wife was happy though, because it was on her side that the door broke. Her car would have had to be left outside in single digit temps. When or if you ever get married, you'll realize that keeping the wifey happy is the ONLY way to go!!

I'll keep in touch about the "Fedora 6" project...

Take care, :-)
