You're right, I meant the top heatsink seen on the right ( 2 of them ). I don't know why it was missing half of the thermal pad, it seemed like it had been ripped off. Usually I'd send anything similar straight back but this time I just wasn't feeling like waiting for a month to get it back so I decided to fix it myself.

After an hour long BFBC2 session with stock clocks the core didn't go above 40c and all the VRM's stayed below 55c

The cooler itself though is massive. It covers nearly 3 PCI slots below it, although you could probably fit a card in the 3rd slot if you pushed this one back abit, but I'm not in a hurry to try yet. My physx card isn't coming back until my brother gets his new PC

If I use the old profile I had for the stock cooler @ 961/1310 I reach 78c core with all the VRMs at roughly 110-120c

I saw a review or two that showed less than 1 C cooling using heatsinks. Has anyone actually seen an improvement with them? I haven't used them since the old Zalman days on my x850xt.

Well the ones that came with the Accelero Xtreme weren't like that. Take a look at the picture I posted above.

To be honest I wouldn't be surprised though. The stock cooling system isn't exactly the best one either and it doesn't have any heatsinks alike. And at the end of the day none of us really run furmark 24/7 so it's largely irrelevant when it comes to say gaming.

Hmm would it fit a R5870 Lightning, be interested to see if would be any better than the stocks that come with the Lightnings..

It should do. The PCB is black which usually means it's a reference card, but if I was you I'd check a few reviews or such to find out to be sure.

It's PCB is one of the most custom ones out too bad the coolers quality isn't up to par...

so far the only cooler i have found is for the 5970

but all of the other places i have seen the arctic cooler for sale in dont have either 1 for the 5870/5970 just the place i post the link to. maybe they will get the 5870 cooler in? well i hope that is.a nd i sent performance-pc a email asking them if they will be getting these in any time soon. so far i have not gotten a reply back yet. i hope that 1 of the US retailer will be selling them here soon cause i want 1 for my 5870.....
