Best Athlon XP for OC'ing?

Thread Starter
I want to replace an Athlon MP 1800 that is in my home server. I have an Athlon XP 3200+ Barton in another desktop that I have but I want to try another chip. Please tell me which is the best to get ie. Athlon XP, Athlon MP, Athlon XP-M and so forth. I want one that is preferably unlocked and is the easiest to OC. My Barton is locked. My 1800 is a Palomino and it doesn't like to OC.

I found an Athlon XP 3200+ with a 333MHz FSB that runs stock at 2.3GHz. Is this a good CPU? I also found several 2900+ that runs at 400MHz FSB at 2.0GHz but I know that they were built for a PC manufacturer and sometime they are'nt supported in some mobo's. What would you guys recommend?

Thanks!

It will be going in either an Asus A7N8X-E-Deluxe or an Abit NF7-S2G mobo.

I believe that XP Mobiles are unlocked, not certain though. XPs are getting fairly expensive for their performance nowadays... they're like collector items.

XP-M's are mobiles and are all unlocked. They all overclock extremely well.
These run at 266 bus speeds, but can run at 400mhz and more with the Abit NF7-S version 2 motherboard.
The XP-M 2400 (at 35 watts) is the most sought of the mobiles.
The XP-M 2500 (at 45 watts) and the XP-M 2600 (at 45 watts) are also proven winners.
All the above can easily oc to 2.5ghz on air cooling with good PC3500 ram.
On water cooling, they will all go further. See my profile for my specs.
Look for cpu steppings: IQYHA, IQZEA, or any starting with the letter I.
sTEPPINGS STARTING WITH THE LETTER a DON'T OC AS WELL.
eBAY has bunches. You'll need a good power supply to reach good oc's.
Good luck.

I have posted this in other threads, but if it helps you, acortech.com has the xp-m 2800 cpu listed for $89.00, new oem. I think they are new system pulls. I got one, has unlocked multi to at least 13, and I have it running around 2464mhz, where my 3300 would only do about 2200mhz, and was locked multi of 11.

Thank you! I went ahead and bought on from them. I had a hard time deciding wether to get this XP-M 2800 or get an XP-M 2400 from spartantech.com for $79. I went with the 2800 because of the larger L2 cache. Thanks a lot for your source!

The best ones overall are the 2500 and 2600 XP-M's and there are 2 different 2400s, the 35W which is 1.35vcore (doesnt usually OC as well), and the 45W which is 1.45vcore just liek the 2500, 2600 and 2800. The problem with the 2800 mobile is that they do not always work in desktop boards. I have had the most luck with Xp2500's mobile and desktop chips.
