i have a similar card, the x1800xl w/o all in wonder, i also have the same zalman cooler, i installed it and it doesnt work? i followed the directions on the zalman website on installing the cooling fan. Then when i re installed the oem fan, it worked again. is there something i have to do inorder to use the zalman fan? Im guessing theres a safty precaution on the vga card that makes sure that the oem fan is working? and if its not plugged in, then the card wont boot up?
thanks

Recommendations:

1) Do not remove your newly installed cooler, if the cooler fan is plugged into the power supply, goto step 2). If it is plugged into the video card, just try plugging it into the other fan plug on the vidoe card board.

2) Plug in the fan of your old heatsink into the socket in the videcard.

3) Reboot.

Thanks for the reply

too late, i uninstalled the new cooler.. so i gotta buy new thermal paste and thermal tape (btw, i looked on new egg and zipzoomfly and i couldnt find thermal tape.. would u know where to get it. )

Step 2, i thought of doing that, i just wasnt sure if i wanted to cut it unless i was 100% sure.. i know u can sodder it back on ect, but i didnt want to risk it. Is this what everyone else does to fix this problem?

Another thing, i read the zalman has 2 settings 5v and 12 v for the fan speed, i also know that the x1800xl has variable speed control settings, would u know if the max voltage out put of the vid card would be comparable to 12v? The reason why i ask is that i just downloaded ati tool and i saw that my vid card runs at 80 + degrees... im guessing this is in celsius.. (im no pc genious, but i do know that this is bad. Thats why i bought the cooler, but it doesnt work )

Thanks for you help

80c is way too hot. My card idles at 40c and maxes at 55c when oc'ed to the extreme! Why do you need new thermal tape? Can't you just use tyhe stuff that came with your new cooler? I also don't understand what you are referring to when you talked about soldering. Whta are you going to solder?

hmmm bit of an off topic but dose every one elses card idle and max out at the same temps as the above poster?

As mine now at idle is 67C, im useing the catilist to view temps as i said in a thread i cant use Ati tool any more as it dont work after i installed my VF900?

i also about 5 hours ago reinstalled the fan with AS5 as i didnt have any at the time of purchaseing the fan, could i have installed it wrong? or do i need to do the nut things up very tight? as im scared to break the card

(sorry off topic)

are u talking about my temps... i googled it and found that lots of peoples cards ran that hot... i know that its not good. I also saw people mention that theres heating issues w/ the x1800xl cards. Im not sure what exactly it is.

As for my card. Today I tried to unplug the oem fan on the vid card and boot it up while still having the oem cooling device mounted to the card. The card worked. So then i tried to install the vf700-cu and it didnt work again. I have no idea what is going on and why it isnt working. Heres a pic of it installed and im pretty sure i did it correctly.

Dierfocus: sorry i was talking about bad haze when i was talking about the temps thing as it is quite worrying about my temps being hight.

And sorry im a little confused here, your computer booted up with the stock fan pluged in and wouldnt with the VF700 right? If im wrong may i ask if you have any temp readings in ATI tool with you aftermarket fan pluged in?
