1st Gen, Finally! - Page 3

Thread Starter
Little bit necroposting, but whatev. Got all my parts and assembled the computer today. Turned it on and all fans and mobo led's came on, waited but no posting beeps. I noticed the DRAM led was on so I tried swapping out RAM to different slots and still got nothing. Yoinked all the sticks and VGA and still no post. Is it possible for all the led's to work and power connections but still have a dead mobo chipset?

Btw these should be compatible correct?

Edit-Just did a test without the heatsink on and cpu was heating, so I'd assume that means it's working. Limiting it to just the mobo chipset, is there anything else I could do to narrow this down? Cleared CMOS as well, should I start packing it for RMA?

Kills me to double post, but isn't there any way to pick out the underlying cause? I'd like to have a simple RMA procedure so I'm not wasting time shipping back and forth.

How long are you waiting for POST?

System should POST even if there's no CPu, no RAM, ect. No beep codes suggest something's wrong with the mobo.

I've let it run for half an hour, waiting for a post. I've got it all packaged up for RMA now, since I ruled out everything else.

Bit late, but I was going to suggest trying all the other hardware on a mobo you know works.

Let us know how the RMA goes.

I'd get a GTX 480 and a more reasonable motherboard to stay on budget, look in on sale thread to find deals for the 480 around $450. Maybe step down to a EVGA X58 mobo.

@Admiral VGA works, I've been using it to full glory in my other rig , SSD captured some vids for me, but unfortunately RAM test will have to wait. After more than a week clicking the shipping number it's finally in California and in less than a day has been processed, Newegg da bomb.
