Is USB 3.0 worth it?

Thread Starter
What's up OCN I'm checking out a new 1156 board and wondering about going with USB 3.0. I thought I read that it gives a 5gb transfer rate. (Don't remember could be wrong) But what's everyone's opinion? Is it worth spending the extra funds?

Do you have any or expect to own any USB3.0 devices in the near future?

Newer boards with USB3.0 and SATA 6Gbps are not that much more expensive.

Just be aware of the bandwidth limitations of Socket 1156 and the workarounds impact of PCIe lanes.
Once again...

nothing uses usb3 or sata 6gbps, and by the time you need it, you will own a new motherboard.

You could say its just like SATA III (and even DirectX 11) - although there are already some devices such as SSDs supporting those speeds, it's still more about what the future holds, and your intentions on utilizing and taking advantage of those features. But then again, by the time those newer devices come along, there may already be even better boards.

I hate to sound like a fanboy cause im not, but i dont see usb 3.0 becoming too popular till iphones, ipod, ipads etc start using it. Then others will do the same.

Right now other than using usb 3.0 as a selling point there really isnt any devices using it.

Asus Launching USB 3.0 PCI-E Card for $30

So you actually don't need to think of investing in mobo with 3.0

Well yea, since they are double priced too. But that was just about "no device" thing I can't see any point of buying it now and overpaying for external, i'm 2 external hdd for hdtv purpose, and kinda don't care about it's lame speed Only maybe once, when had last episode of lost copying 5 minutes, couldn't wait
