Absolutely, the consistency and content of the paste is the most important thing.

Correct you can use toothpaste or even Vegemite, as long as they don't get hot enough to boil. This is a pretty good article http://www.dansdata.com/goop.htm it had toothpaste beating a rather thick application of AS3
