AMD Server?

Hey guys,

I'm not an AMD guy, so im asking all you AMD kings

I'm looking to rent or lease a BF2 server for my fellow team mates that i run with.

The specs are as follows:

Dual AMD Opteron 242
2048MB ECC DDR RAM
36GB SCSI Hard Drive
Fedora Core 3 O/S
100Mbps Uplink

Is this a good set up for a BF2 server?

yeah, that's a good setup, but I would go for a dual core opteron 270: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103552
It's better, by far, and cheaper.

Not looking to buy. Just looking to rent a dedicated server to run BF2 on.

Anyone have any exsperience.

Looking for no lag server and the company is offering the set up on a 64 man setup.

Any cons about this set up?

It should be good enough. a better CPU would help, though.
BF2 requires at least a 1.7GHz rated CPU... I'd lookfor a 3.0GHz rated one.

We are currently leasing a server that has a P4 3.0Ghz.
We are still getting lagofare big time.

I figured if we get a Dual AMD Opteron 242
2048MB ECC DDR RAM
36GB SCSI Hard Drive
Fedora Core 3 O/S
100Mbps Uplink

It would run better being its AMD.

Am i currect by saying so?

Dual opterons, no matter what the speed, are lightning fast. Overdrive PC made an overclocked dual opteron system for a while that was the fastest system Computer Shopper had ever tested. Even without overclocking, Opterons are nic chips.

So i was just told be the server company that they would have 3 clients on this server. Running BF2.
Would it still hold up to its speed?

It might be a little slower, but it has a fair amount of memory as well as fast components. You'd probably only notice a minimal amount of lag. However, I don't play many online games, so I couldn't speak from experience.

I would look for a server with 2-dual core opty's and atleast 4 gigs of ECC REGISTERED RAM... 2 gigs on a bf2 server would be good for 2 clients but stressed on a 3 client server... I looked into builiding a few servers but it wasnt cost effective for me...

Good luck searching.
