How to install windows on SATA /wo floppy (bios option)

I just discovered a neat bios option recently that many of you might find helpful. If you only run single SATA drives (not in raid) then there is a bios option that allows windows to install without the need for a driver floppy. In your bios, under chipset options or the like, find the option for sata mode. The default is always RAID, which requires a driver. If you're not using raid, then change it to the other option, usually called IDE SATA or BASE MODE. Importiant note: Only do this before installing windows! If you do it while windows is currently installed, you won't be able to boot it until you change it back.

Good luck. Oh, do you think I should make this into a FAQ? If so, where did the FAQ section go?

Oh really? Maybe it's a NF4 thing because I've installed windows on at least 5 NF3 systems and they all required a floppy. Either that or your motherboard is more deluxe and auto detects the array type for you. Thanks for letting me know.

Even with my nf3 it was just a simple plug and play.

But didn't you say you just got SATA? IDE never required a driver. Or maybe it's just me and all the cheap motherboards I buy

Oh... lol. Okay I'm dumb for not seeing that. Anyway... I guess I won't make it into a FAQ then if it's just me that has to use a floppy.

well, i still needed my scsi/sata drivers during installation, but before i changed it to ide(which i did too) it wouldn't even let me install from floppy. the key didn't work, so it wouldn't let me install until i switched to ide. just a head up to people with asus a8 seris boards.
