I need help with RAID

Thread Starter
i currently have a RAID1 configuration, on my P4C800E-Deluxe.
i would like to go with a RAID 0+1, do i have to delete my current array and start from scratch? or can i install another drive and go from there?

You have to start from scratch and I'm not 100% sure but I think you may need 4 hdd.

I have RAID 0 but never bothered with +1.

unless the data you store on those drives is absolutely creitical, i wouldn't bother with RAID 0+1, as it's really just a waste of 2 HDD's,

You can create an image of your drive's. Then create the 0+1 RAID array from scratch. Then clone the image onto the array.

You will need a minimum of four drives to create the 0 + 1 array and remember tht a single drive failure will cause the whole array to become, in essence a RAID Level 0 array.

Are you intending on creating a file server or are do you work in the imaging industry?

What is the reason you wish to move from RAID 0 to RAID 0 + 1? It's a pretty expensive proposition and not very reliable. If the data you are storing is critical then 0 + 1 is NOT the way to go. Raid 1 is much more fault tolerant and can sustain multiple drive failures without losing data.
