"Not another computer!", she says

Just got a computer for $320.00(CAN). P4 2.4A (D0), 2 X 256 DDR 400 (Samsung Original), 80Gig Maxtor, DVD & CD-RW, ATX Case with Enermax 350 Watt PSU, ATi 9600Pro 256MB, Thermaltake BigWater and 7 in 1 card reader.

I pulled the dram and tossed in Crucial 2 X 512 PC3200XL's. Seagate 200GB, Antec TruePower 450, X800XT PE (The Real thing, not flashed) and pumped it up to 3.5GHz rock stable. Had the parts lying around doing nothing so what the hell.

Now I have another damn computer around the house. Seven now and the wife is getting pissed. I told her, like what could I do, it was so damn cheap.

LOL I hear that. Ive only got 5, and only 4 are usable. My wife doesnt realy mind as long as she gets to play girly games(yuck). But it fits in with the rest of my hobbies, Ive got 5 project trucks, 5 very expensive radio control vehicles including a big ass helicopter and of course a family of 5 to deal with day in day out. I might need a vacation soon.

I would scrap six of them and just go with two extremely kick a$$ machines. I had 9 computers at one time. (I get tons of samples and parts from vendors for my job.) So I just kept building them because I had the parts. I gave two of them away and sold the rest and now I have the desktop that's in my profile and a nice laptop. I think I was probably paying $150/month if not more to have all those computers running all the time. Consolidate man, consolidate!!

The number five is close to your heart huh

Only three of mine are running. My Media Center, the wife's and my gaming machine. The others are just sitting around. Like you I pick up the parts (good deals) and in time they turn into machines that I play with to get them overclocked and running well. Then when someone needs a good machine I toss it off to them.

I can't do anymore to my running ones so really don't have any choice. I already upgrade every six months so i's more about feeding my tweaking habit in between system builds. I don't have a folding habit, just a tweaking one. Each to their own eh?

Now if I could just convince my wife. Hey, it's far better than the years of excess drinking and womanizing. I would tell her that but then she would ask me all about the 'women' and I'm not going there! :0

Same here, I go through my boxes of parts and build anything I can.
(Overclocking 486's is definantly a tweaking habit)
