Customer Comment or Question

Subject: Free Backplate offer for GTX480
Comment: I recently got the free High Flow bracket offer for the GTX480 and had two of them ordered for my two cards. I was told you guys offer the backplates for free as well but I cannot find the link for the offer. I was wondering if you would be able to have two shipped to me for my card. I will pay any shipping fees if necessary and I would really love to try them out because my cards get very hot especially now that it's the summer.

Thank you in advance.

Hi,

Bit-tech posted incorrect information and never corrected it. EVGA never announced anything about offering backplates for free, this was Bit-tech’s mistake. We tried to have them correct it, but they still did not.

Regards,
Nick

Hi Nick,

I find this a little odd because there was a minor article about it on Bit-tech.net. I also noticed that EVGA personally took notice of it and commented.

"In other news, EVGA will upgrade any customer of GeForce GTX 470 or GTX 480 and send them a replacement high-airflow bracket and vented backplate for them to convert their existing cards. EVGA claims that the modification can result in a 7°C temperature drop (5°C via bracket, 2°C via backplate), meaning a quieter stock cooler or more overclocking headroom. Realistically this isn't a massive difference, but EVGA stated that it is '99 per cent certain it will do this for free', so we can't complain.

Addendum 4th June 2010: EVGA contacted us to correct that while the bracket and backplate will be free, p&p will have to be paid for."

http://www.bit-tech.net/news/hardwar...opean-operat/1

After this article a few weeks later the bracket deal came up on EVGA's website for USA included. This is what made me wonder about the backplate offer. Perhaps it is not offered at the moment but will be in the near future? If you could supply any dates on comments regarding this I would highly appreciate it.

Thanks again in advance,

Is it going to be possible to purchase backplates ?

For those that bought them for their GTX 295's how much of a difference did they make?

I would assume so. EVGA knows people want them and EVGA also wants money.

GTX295 Backplate Tested - 10*C Temp Drop

I had the same on water and it gave about 2-3*C cooler on one GPU side but that's cause I had a really good block to begin with and had obscenely low temps. I'm estimating about 5*C for average waterblocks.

I hope they do sell them because I want one.

Thanks for the info, I'm wondering cause I have two 480's coming in this week and people have been telling me to space them out instead of sticking them next to each other on my EVGA X58 SLI board. Maybe with the bracket/backplate I can stick them next to each other and have them both in x16 slots.
