The Record Breaker

Thread Starter
I wanted to start an ongoing thread where I would place benchmarks, upgrades, mods and sub-zero runs on my system so here I am!

This system is going to be my daily use system and my HWBot rig.

I guess I'll start with the current system specs:
Core i7 860
EVGA P55 FTW 200
2x2GB DDR3 1333MHz Corsair Dominator CL9
ATI HD4890
Tuniq Tower Extreme
Corsair TX750
7200.12 500GB Seagate Hard Drive

Now you might ask why I'm using those horrible modules. The reason is my G. Skill PIS have not arrived yet, but they will substitute these Corsair modules very soon.

Despite being real cheap RAM I managed some alright MaxxMem results on them.
http://hwbot.org/community/submission/1012317_

Yesterday I managed a really good (IMO) 3DMark06 score. 22589 on the 4890. Not too bad in my books.
http://hwbot.org/community/submission/1012309_
I should be able to improve this with my new, better RAM.

Thank you for reading. Keep in mind this is an ongoing thread so I will update it often. Next week should be the big week with me picking up my CPU pot from a friend and my G. Skill PIS arriving for some DICE action on both my old Core i5 650 and the Core i7 860. Expect some nice 2D and 3D results!

I'm in!

I guess I should also get in on '06 since I made it through Vantage at 1055/1220... Challenge accepted

That's my best 3DMark06 so far: 22589.

I got XP, but didn't manage to improve my score at all on 3DMark. I did, however, manage to get my first Aquamark run in.
http://hwbot.org/community/submissio...90_22589_marks

Besides that I improved my PiFast and SuperPi 1M scores:
http://hwbot.org/community/submissio..._860_19.55_sec
http://hwbot.org/community/submissio...860_9sec_281ms

This weekend I'll play with my brother's 8800GTS 512MB a bit. Should improve my HWBot rankings a bit.

Looking forward to bench wars with you Bass!

Don't worry, I will in due time! That's a very nice Super Pi score, by the way.

I'm considering getting another hard drive so I can keep Windows XP for benching. Dual booting isn't working too well for me.

Can't wait for my memory to arrive so I can beat your Super Pi score.

Them's fightin' words!

Maybe I'll tighten the timings and go beat it myself

EDIT: lol nope. No beating that score with this chip. But beware.... I'm purchasing a new one very soon (mine's pretty terrible, will not 2D bench above 4.7 or 3D bench above 4.47. So I'm buying a new one... one that's proven!

EDIT 2: Got an '06 run finished. Here's the result:

23586 Marks

You know... this is a lot more exciting when you're posting scores too!

Here's the story of my first DICE run:

Friday my father bought me 5KG of DICE since I had a basketball game and couldn't stop by to buy it. Ended up costing around U$15-20, pretty cheap. So every weekend we go to my grandparent's and my parents picked me up straight from the game so my mother packed my computer, pot and isolation.

We get to my grandparent's and I saw my mother forgot the DVI-VGA connector (my grandparent's only own an old 15"). I knew I wouldn't be able to bench that night, so I insulated the motherboard and went to sleep.

I forgot to ask her to bring some isopropylic alcohol too, so we went out to buy those on Saturday morning. When we got back to my grandparent's I put the alcohol in the pot and dropped two pellots of DICE in. I tried booting: no video.

At this point I thought it could be a dead video card or something. After troubleshooting I found out it was the connector that was faulty and we bought an s-video cable, which was my only hope.

I got a television and started the session. The system boots perfectly this time. I did some quick clocking and found 220MHz to be my max stable BCLK with 1.4V VTT. From there I overclocked my processor to whatever 1.65V would bring me. Seems like my VTT was the bottleneck, since I managed 221MHz BCLK at 22x multiplier yielding 4860MHz.

I managed to bench SuperPi 1M, wPrime 32M, wPrime 1024M and PiFast. The only problem was with wPrime 1024M, which I could only bench at 4620MHz. At this point I sort of gave up on overclocking since I was running into serious cold boot problems. I did not have a thermometer to know the temperature at which it failed to boot, but whenever the system turned off I had to wait for the DICE to deplete until I could boot again.

Anyway, sorry for the wall of text. Here are some screenshots:

Intel SpeedStep kicked in. Should be 22x multiplier.
