I stuck it over the top of my gigabyte install here and no issues apart from wprime efficiency but not huge

With those back plates I usually bend all those little metal tabs flat but I think you are right. My biostar I have in a case doesn't line up right atall. Never noticed on my tech station, good call.

I'll run it and re-do it if there are issues!

Your review is GREAT by the way - very detailed.

I'm going to try installing the cards in slots 1 and 3 for the full 1x speed, but we'll see how the temps are on the cards. I should look for some benchmarks comparing 1x to 16x PCI_E . . .

SOFTWARE OVERCLOCK

I always shy'd away from these programs, opting to do everything in the bios - I see in your reviews / other posts you seem to be okay with these programs, and obviously your results speak to their tribute . . . Would you still do BIOS overclocking vs. SOFTWARE?

I'll post some pics soon! Maybe also some graphics benchmarks of using the 16x slot vs the 1x slot for the 2nd card in crossfire.

LOL does that program work right now?

@jonny, I only use the software to set clocks I can't boot to windows at. Theres no way I could ever boot to windows over 4.6 on air it just wouldn't do that. Also the ability to clock 1 core is a massive bonus when fighting tempretures.

HOLD THE PRESSESS! EL GAPPO!!!!

PCI_ E slots speed - your review needs a change! Thank God! I thought I had read differently in the manual last night, so when I saw the bottom slot in your review as being 1x - I swore.

I'm on page 15/69 in the PDF manual from the BIOSTAR site.

They have it in a weird order on the page, which probably caused the confusion - Looks like slot 2 is 1x, slot 4 is 4x! so 2gb / second / 4gb/s slot!

Def throw that in your review, If I had read that before, it might have made me go Msi, Asus or Gigabyte for fear of issues with crossfire!

Oh Glorious DAY! lol

Slot 1 and 3 are x 16 counting down from the top. then the second down is x4 and the last x1. Or have I muddled up the last 2?

From ma review

Quote:
The 890FX chipset offers 42 pci lanes and I have no idea why Biostar saw fit to arrange the pci-e lanes the way they did. ( From the top, x16 x4 x16 x1 ) I think a full bandwidth trifire or even an x8 quadfire solution is what a lot of people are picking boards for at the moment and I would of liked to see that here.
Ohhhh I see what I did there. I'll change that. This is what I get for not taking notes and doing it off the top of ma head

I don't want to talk about pci anymore I'm in a huff. Can we boycott them?

The fact still remains it's a stupid layout and distribution of bandwidth regardless.

Fixed btw
