suggestions for computer design

Thread Starter
My little cousin's building his 1st computer...any one want to design his computer?
His budget is $700 with out monitor, keyboard, etc. included
make sure when you calculate the total money spent in your suggested design to include all shipping costs as well (this was a problem for me last year and i ended up borrowing lots of money)
I'm guessing he would need an AMD processor, 4gigs of RAM and hard drive should be about 250-300gig.
Besides that just try to make everything as best as possible (processor, motherboard, graphic card) under the budget.
Also, he doesn't care how the case looks, he just wants to get the best possible computer under his budget.

hmm, pretty tight budget. But you should be able to get a medium/light gaming rig out of it np. few questions tho:

1. CAD, USD, etc.? What is your currency in.
2. What is he going to be using this for? Basic needs, schooling, light work, internet, gaming?

Sorry for not clarifying but its U.S. dollars
He's going to use it for a little gaming, a little video editing, and I think he's doing some math research project....so special software I guess. Also for basic needs, schooling, internet, Microsoft office, etc.
But like he has $700 and he wants to get the best of it...so even if he doesn't need all of that he wants a fast snappy computer.
I was suggesting like AMD triple or quad core for the processor not sure really because I've only made one computer for my self and spent a lot more money.
Any ways, just want a design
Thanks

okai, awesome. hmmm.

a quad core would do good, but you could also try getting a dual core and unlocking it to a quad. but that is all chance unfortunately.

i'll build a rig on newegg. but i would suggest building it on ncix and using their price check option. in Canadian dollars there is a site called shopbot.ca which finds the lowest price for each part. then you just add it into the price check and get the lower price for example, you can get a high quality pair of headphones for over 60 bucks off

i'll do it later today tho. just not in the mood, but some suggestions for a nice solid build would be:

1. talk to Phaedrus2129 for quality low powered psu. that would be a big main part of your build. if you get a crappy psu your components would more then likely die over time.
2. amd 555 and unlock, or an althon x4.
3. 4gb of g.skill ram.
4. samsung spinpoint f3 500gb drive
5. 5770 gpu.
6. dvd-drive (sata)

and that should do it well for video editing. math programs don't require a lot, so you should be fine on that. good luck with the build. i'll post a build sometime later today

Yes I think its better to replace the PSU in the design prophetd7 suggested and replace it with a better one
to compensate for the money i think its better to use an AMD quad core processor which one could get for a hundred bucks or so.
Then we would have to change the motherboard as well...
