AMD 64 3200+ Venice Core @ 2.8ghz - Page 2

The 512mb stick I have is probably better than the three 256mb sticks, but I'm not sure if I'll do better performance wise with less ram even if the system is stable at 2.8.
Sell the three sticks on ebay and buy a single stick of good ram

edit:
Also, you have a generic PSU. Its probably fluxuating a lot more than a branded PSU. I couldn't get past 2.3 with my old 350W (generic even then it was unstable)

I've been playing with the settings for a bit and I've found that manipulating the CPU/DDR clock isn't as important for getting past the BIOS. At this point it seems like the HT multi. was the most significant. Manipulating the CPU/DDR past the 2/1 original clock only mattered when HT=4x now at 3x I've got 2/1 2/1.33 and 2/1.5 to boot up. It seems that the slightly slower speed for the ram may make a difference. At 2/1.33 I almost got through SuperPi at 8mb, but it crashed right at the end. (Back to the lab again!)

So I put the CPU/DDR down to 2/1 and the system is stable now at 2.8ghz.!!!!!

I'm wondering however if it would be better to decrease the fsb and try and get the ram to run at a faster clock speed.

The old ram has to go, but in the mean time I want to get as much performace out of it as possible.

thanks everyone for the input so far!!

A higher CPU frequency will out perform a boost in ram frequency. If you can run the ram higher, great. But don't sacrifice CPU clocks.

btw, what type of ram are you running? 320 crap - what was your multiplier?

The F8 should help you out as it unlocks several features not available in the previous version as well as increases stability.

The most important things once you have the F8 are the HT multi, FSB, and corevoltage - At first I had to change the other settings to get it to get past the BIOS, but with the F8 I was able to change only the three above and drop the others back to default (that way I could isolate what the problems were). Most likely if you have better ram than me you can push up your CPU/DDR multiplier to get faster ram speeds and have a more stable system. Right now my system is crashing at the end of SuperPi, but it's running UT2004 just fine and I got through a 30 minute encoding job without crash or errors.

I had F7 before i updated to F8, i still cant seem to get past 2.7, i think it's my ram as it wont let me add anymore vcore so i mite take out the 256meg stick and see if thats wat it is coz i think it's a bit dodgie. Hopefully i can post 2nite with 2.8! 3.0 is my dream but i think i'd need a bit of vcore for that. Thnx alot man!

FalconDelta can you post a screenie of your 2800mhz OC please, is it OCCT stable? I am interested in your Vcore settings and temps under load to get it stable at that speed. My 3200 is giving me grief.
