Reccomended artifact time

Thread Starter
Hey guys interested in raising my X800Pro clock speeds to x850xt speeds it doesnt seem to have a problem with 500/500 and it seems to just laugh honestly the temperature stays about the same.. So* onto the question about what would be a good time to scan for artifacts would i want to try the amount of time i usually play or just like 2 minutes..? btw would 54c idle and 80c artifact scanning be a good* temperature or should i invest in a better cooler like an arctic silencer? all post are MUCH appreciated

well you want to look for artifacts when the gpu and mem has heated up... you can do this by running a game of your choice for say 10-15 min. or run a benchmark or 2... and if you get no artifacts...then keep OCing

very interesting i dont think i would need to go past 520 and 560 at most i am astounded at this card considering my last two things were an intel 845gl laptop and my previous card an X300SE (324-196) so having a speed about 280 without the card crashing is INSANE P.S. anyone have an idea if those are normal temperatures for stock clock stock cooling?

ya those temps are about right for stock... i have a stock cooler on my card and i run at max 75c when gaming...and about 45-50c idle....so your about normal for the x800 cause ive heard they run a little hot....

if you wanna OC further, invest in a good zalman vf700 or the appropriate arctic cooler....

well the two cooler i suggested are about the best, for air that is... you could go get a vapochill for a few hundred!!! lol

but other than that i would say just keep OCin till you get artifacts then back it down a little... and buy either the zalman(get an all copper(CU) one) or arctic cooler

ATI tool should tell you. If you already dont have it it is here: http://www.techpowerup.com/atitool/

Then click on "settings" and a few lines from the top you should see "chip name", mine is an r420.

I also have an x800PRO and its on stock cooling. It has never gone over 60*C Core temp. It usually never exceeds 55*C. I get a stable OC to 540 Core and 605 Memory. I used ATItool for a while, then I saw that ATI Tray tools had an overclock section that let me overclock by about 20 MHz more on both memory and core.

Good Luck in overclocking that thing, it has been good for me . Let us know how that cooler does for you, I am interested in getting one myself.
