it's because they use an LED flash, which are horrible for pictures, but good for video. What's needed is dual LED/Xenon bulbs for video/camera. One of the Sony phones has both.

The iPhone 4 will not have flash

As for performance, I switched from an iPhone 3G to my Google Nexus One and the ONLY complaint I have is the random bugs (crashes, stops responding, wrong responses, etc.) and I'm hoping a bunch of these will be fixed in 2.2 or 3.0

I bought my 3GS outright which was 1K here in Australia. Nothing in that list of features really urges a need to upgrade to me. I dont surf the web on it enough. I think I'll survive. Might wait for the iphone 5

I probably will end up buying this. I've been eligible for an upgrade and waiting for this summer to upgrade all my electronics (just built my new PC ^_^). That said, I'm a Google fanboy and have a natural bias against Apple, but I generally buy the best product available, which is why I ended up with my current iPhone 3G two years ago. Most of the Android-based phones that I like aren't available for AT&T and I will probably be going with Apple again on this phone, though it hurts me.

I must say my iPhone 3G is extremely slow, and after seeing the snappy performance of the iPad and knowing that the 4G has basically the exact same hardware, I expect that performance out of the iPhone 4.

The increasingly closed-nature of Apple products really hurts me, but I'll have to give Google and other companies a bit more time to build competing devices (The HTC Incredible, Samsung Galaxy S and upcoming Dell phones are nice starts).

Love my 3G, hopefully I'll be able to afford it soon, apple tend to push prices much higher in the UK
I cant wait to see what the jailbreak team can do with this, since now it has an Apple A4.

I dunno, I dont like the closed thing but at the same time i will say it WORKS for Apple...there arent any problems that plagued the early android apps and such and Apple's dev toolkit is pretty damn comprehensive...

And as i said....the Evo, which is the best Android phone available felt "clunky" it felt like a hassle to actually use because everything felt buried 5 layers in...and then theres the issue that every Android company is putting a different front end on it it seems...and some of them are getting crippled (iirc, one or two of Dell's phones are based on Android but running some custom stuff that locks out some features..)

Windows Phone 7 looks interesting, but the hardware will need to be compelling...Theres been a lot of iphone killers out there, but so far a lot of them have been more hype than actual kill...

I mean first it was the Storm..then the G1/Android...WebOS....the EVO....

Maybe in a year or 2 then Android will be mature enough, or there will be a more compelling reason to upgrade...

BTW, people mock Apple's "innovation" but the truth is they are...not in terms of the features themselves but generally in terms of packaging and the way things are done, Apple is innovative in terms of user experience...There were lots of phones, and are lots of phones that can do what an iPhone does, but the iPhone just has a certain level of polish in its interface that makes it just work better...

I'm pretty much 85% on getting the new iPhone over the EVO....I really liked the EVO...but....I just dont feel Android is ready yet and the sales guy seemed to do nothing to encourage me it was actually BETTER than what i had...Except saying it was 4G ready repeatedly which means jack here right now...

I think there are several phones out at the moment that are better than the iPhone, but that doesn't mean that they are or are going to be more successful. Apple has too much of a foothold and image in the market, though Android is doing extremely well.

I actually prefer the HTC Incredible to all other phones at the moment.
