finally announced...some highlights

-High-res 960x640 display (they call it Retina) uses an IPS panel and has 800:1 contrast, its basically a small version of the iPad's screen...which means its VERY good...

-5mp rear camera, backlit sensor, meaning its probubly a bit better than the EVO's, especially in low light

-720p30 video, plus iMovie editing right on the phone

-Video chat between other iOS 4 phones

-A4 processor, same as the iPad, meaning it will be one quick little bugger

-Still 3G, but it will support 7.2/3.6 mbps when its available in your area

My thoughts will follow in a seperate post...
You missed out, the camera has 5x zoom and autofocus+tap anywhere to focus. Also front facing camera with a free video calling service. 4G is much pointless since it only covers very few areas in the US and none at all in Europe or any other country..

Havnt tried the incredible yet sadly...but if the interface is the same as the Evo i probubly wont find it much better

I expect things to change immensely with the introduction of Android 2.2. I don't know if you watched the Google I/O conference, or read any highlights, but it appears as if Android 2.2 will be much better and quicker.

Anyways, my personal thoughts, I'm a current iphone user, I had the original one the day it came out and the 3G...

I went to Sprint friday and looked at the Evo, Very nice phone, and in many ways, i really liked things like the Android market and such, and it did impress me...Although we do NOT have 4G here..meaning you're still stuck on 3G and it didnt seem any better or worse than AT&T...the real killer for me is the fact most everyone i know has AT&T and even though Sprint gives me unlimited mobile to mobile to anyone, that doesnt count for my friends who do not have that and have very few minutes..Which sorta killed Sprint because despite the fact it costs less, if I cant actually use it as much as my iPhone then well..its pointless...it still tempted me to switch however..

Moving on...I did like the screen and it recognized my touch input better than my 3G...it was also blazingly fast..but I also found Android a little clunky at first...a bit better after a few minutes but i still couldnt find things like a Call/Data timer...and overall i found it a little illogical...Although I imagine in time I'd get used to it I also was quite nervous on switching because I didnt see an advantage to the Android-way...

I also faced the fact that I'd still have to have an ipod(Because i have a HUGE library of protected AAC and AAC files....I also happen to like itunes unlike many people here :/), most likely an iPod Touch for music and such...which to me screams "WHY" then..since I'd be carrying 2 devices to do the work that one does now, and one of them costs the same or more than an iPhone....the camera didnt impress me either, the quality was really "meh" to me, at least on the screen, not bad, but they went with an 8 megapixel unit to wave a bigger phone peen at Apple and other manufacturers...

Oh and the GPS was sweet too as was the Android marketplace basically being free and the fact Flash is coming to it...

I note I've not been as happy with my 3G...its glitchy and tends to lock up on me a lot..things my original NEVER did...and its never been as snappy (except in web access)...my mother's 3GS is far FAR better in this respect and i sorta wish I woulda held off for the 3GS instead of jumping on the 3G...My battery life has never been an issue but im also not away from a plug too long and generally i dont find it any worse than my old Nokia 3600 which soldiered for 4-5 years before i replaced it briefly with a Nokia E62(Which had an absolutely absurd battery...as in you could go a week using it without a problem) and then my first iPhone...

Finally in all truthfulness i have no complaints with ATT service here, No dropped calls, No dead spots i can think of (except in a building or two, where its usually take 1-2 steps and get a signal again) and I dont mind the 3G...Sprint didnt seem faster at all in the area when I tried it and despite the fact 4G is coming supposedly near the end of the year I usually am cautious on such things...

And as i said before..i originally got the iphone because i was carrying my E62 and my ipod (and before that an Axim x50v, Nokia 3600 and an ipod) and I wanted to reduce my load, the iPhone let me do that like no other phones really did...and the Evo, while very nice, still isnt able to do my music duties quite as well as my iphone (At least not without me spending a day or two converting my stuff over..and i really dont want to do that..plus id lose my itunes syncing..which i dont want to do)

Please note, i dont hate the Evo and I am by no means a fanboy... I really like the Evo and if things were different...ie, i didnt have a large chunk of protected AAC music and a ton of ATT using friends...then I probubly would get it...

I evaluated it with an open mind...Android OS DID feel confusing to me, whether its because I've been using iOS for a few years now or because its got a learning curve and logic all to itself I don't know..but needless to say it just failed to show me its real "advantages" over the iOS....

There were a lot of reasons i honestly liked the Evo, but there were a lot of drawbacks for me..So I decided to wait and see the new iPhone...

Kinda glad i did...

I toyed with an ipad in a store and the processor and screen practically blew me away, both are amazing...I wouldnt buy an ipad personally because what id want something that big for the iPad wont do (I'd need a Macbook Pro or another thin/light and powerful computer) the new iPhone has a relative of this screen and the same processor, so I'm expecting its going to rock...IPS panels are the way to go for quality, which again, made me very happy..

I think the camera is better than the HTC Evo's on paper, backlight illuminated sensors are VERY nice and substantially reduce noise to the point there are point and shoots with acceptable ISO1600 and 3200 using tiny little sensors, So kudos to apple for thinking of quality and not pixel-peen-waving

I like the new look and I really have had few complaints with iOS so far...it works very well for me and always has since day 1...I truthfully have tried the Pre (Which didnt recognize most of my touching, i couldnt figure out how to do anything on it which is a BAD thing considering im the type of person who can walk into a store and know more about how to operate a phone/computer/AV stuff than most of the employees) and Android (Which i admit, is a NICE OS, but it felt illogical to me and I still felt a bit lost and like i was delving into 50 menus for things...Not to mention i couldnt, as i said before, find a simple call/data timer in there anywhere...its probubly in there somewhere but i delved into most every menu i could think of and couldnt find it)

I'm glad we get Multitasking now and I'm happy Apple waited on it (I am in their camp that implementing Multitasking from day one would have been trouble, draining battery life and slowing the entire thing down)

I don't tether and would get a seperate modem over tethering and I already have my unlimited data plan(which i get to keep when i upgrade) the lack of GPS ticks me off to be honest...but I suppose I can deal with buying a dedicated unit in the future...

I'm happy I waited..if i had got the Evo, id probubly have taken it back for the new iPhone...Or maybe not, I might have gotten used to android over the weekend and stuff

Though to be fair..the Evo is still endearing to me..and its a damn tempting thing...it really comes down to having a slightly better experience in terms of content with a slightly lower price versus what i know and love with the advantage of not killing my friend's wallets by chewing up their minutes...
I agree with most things.

That said, wall of text is a huge understatement for this post

The iPhone 4 is so awesome, I've got a 3GS 32GB and I'm going to upgrade if I can. According to what I've read, FaceTime will be available over the cellular network eventually... when AT&T's networks can handle it. And with the 2GB or 250MB plan, if you go over you have the option to buy another 2GB.

With all the APIs Apple have given developers over the camera and video camera, I wouldn't be surprised if Skype added a version that works over the cellular network with video chat, if not then over WiFi.

I love the new design, the processor will be fast, great camera/video capabilities, great battery life, massive app store, double res display, plus multi-tasking, tiz a dream come true for someone like myself who isn't interested in a phone from any other company
