A 2nd hd5870

Advice required. You can see my Vapour X in my sig.

I was seriously considering buying a 2nd card. Dam extra PCI-E slot lol.

Anyway, should I bother? How is the xfire scaling with the current drivers?
Also a friend wants to buy my current card for what I got it for, so was thinking about the Asus V2 with overvolting.

What you guys think? Is the overvolt feature really all that?
I have two 5870s. Scaling is nice, especially at the highest resolutions. See this review: http://www.guru3d.com/article/radeon...-test-review/1

Keep in mind also, that performance has gotten even better since that review, due to driver updates.

With regards to trading it in for an overvolting card - how much will you need to pay, net, to do this? I wouldn't do it, unless you're really into benching or something.

Having a box/blower style card would be more conducive for CF setups, that way the cards aren't dumping heat all over each-other.

As far as CF goes, yea it's an option, but I'd wait to pick-up a 2nd card when they're cheaper / you actually need it.
A single 5870 handles pretty much anything at 1920x1200 just fine.

In theory, ASUS Card might overclocks better than Sapphire Vapor-X due to its overvolt feature. Sapphire non-reference card lacks of that feature.
Anyway, what's your CrossFireX plan? Vapor-X + V2 or V2 + V2 ??
It would be better if you get the same card for CrossFireX.

I am not sure to get another vapour X or give it to my mate and get 2 Asus cards
post #8 of 12
It really depends on the games you play. I was running a pair of ASUS 5850s with 5870 bios/clocks. But I sold one to get a 3rd monitor for eyefinity and my games play just as well with one card as they did with two.

If you are going crossfire, then give this to your friend and get ASUS cards.

Most demanding games I would play, crysis, STALKER, Empire Total War etc.
Don't have many DX11 games at the moment
